so i got the 7870 xt yesterday and ran a few test's,ran 3d mark 06 and my score was the same as it was with my gtx 460,has to be a setting on the card since the scores are almost the same, see test score's:

    gtx 460= http://www.3dmark.com/3dm06/17289944

    7870xt= http://www.3dmark.com/3dm06/17298255

all other hardware is the same, all drivers are current.

    AMD 8350
    Asus Sabertooth
    16g g.skill ripjaws 1866
    900w tagan

I took a look at the test scores and one glaring difference is the clock speeds. The 7870's clock speeds are less than half of what the 460's are. So, that could easily be why the scores are nearly the same.

It looks like there were some hardware detection issues with the AMD run, the CPU scores too, should be much closer than they are. I'd rerun the tests using the 2011 version and check the individual scores under the Detailed Scores section.

Below is the current comparison, bold font = best score, nVidia first column, AMD second.

    3DMark Score
    20842 20239 3DMarks
    SM2.0 Score
    8153 7058
    HDR/SM3.0 Score
    9482 10251
    CPU Score
    6369 5926
    GT1 - Return To Proxycon
    68.1 60.0 FPS
    GT2 - Firefly Forest
    67.8 57.7 FPS
    CPU1 - Red Valley
    2.36 2.18 FPS
    CPU2 - Red Valley
    2.75 2.58 FPS
    HDR1 - Canyon Flight
    104.5 127.1 FPS
    HDR2 - Deep Freeze
    85.1 77.9 FPS

yeah i noticed that too but when i used the AMD software to check it the clock speeds were listed as it should be. will download 3d mark again and re-test

From Satrow's post, it seems that the nVidia card is, albeit slightly, the better card. Hmmm...

to think the GTX 460 is the better card is just insane. my games play better than before in BF3 the 460 got at most 24 FPS on ultra setting, the 7870 xt got 70-100+ FPS on ultra settings. my point is it doesnt bench better. half the fun of benching with new hardware is to see the score go up,just want to find out why it hasnt.

We don't think the GTX is the better card, we're just looking at the stats from your benchmarks; as I said, there's poor hardware detection there and an apparent anomaly with the CPU scoring.

That would make me think that there is some problem with the drivers on the 7870 install, that the BIOS/'board/PSU isn't up to running the 7870 or that the benchmarking software is flaky.

Which is why I suggested you run the 2011 version of 3DMark and compare the results from that.

i know sometimes 3d mark can be glitchy in picking up hardware specs. driver are all updated,i ran BETA drivers then went with the latest approved ones. here is the newest test: http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/6761117

i havent run a test with the 460 yet but hopefully the 7870 xt test will shed some light, thanks for the help!

I just compared with my 7850 score, yours now looks like it's in the right area of the ballpark, check again after a run with the 460 for a better comparison.
