Low Resource Anti-Virus Software

Hi, I recently uninstalled Norton Anti Virus from my computer because it was causing it to run very slowly. Can anyone recommend an effective alternative program that wont slow my computer down as much?

My PC's specs are:

Amilo D Fujitsu Notebook
Celeron 997Mhz Processor
256 Mg Ram
Windows XP Professional

Not very fast these days but surely sufficient for XP Pro?

Proggies of choice around here seem to be AVG, AntiVir, and my favorite, Avast. All three come in a free version and use WAY less resources than NAV.

Also you might want to download THIS. Uninstalling NAV rarely actually removes it completely, this utility will help.

[Edit] search this forum for the word "Norton" and you'll find you're not alone in having problems with their stuff.

as it stands now.. AVG is using 3.2 MB on my system.
