Hi everyone, I have a vaio vgn-cr51e with windows vista home premium. From the day I bought it the sound volume is too low compare to my acer with windows xp home edition. I can't watch any movie or listen to music because of the low volume. I believe this is a windows vista problem/feature, because a friend of mine has a different laptop (acer) with windows vista and has the same problem. My sound card is realtek high definition audio. When I plug in the headset the sound is just fine. Is there any way that I can boost the volume or any software that can do something like that?
    Thanks in advance,
    Mike

have you checked to see that you have the right audio setting is.

right click on the speaker icon click playback device highlight your speaker that comes up in the box then click configure it should show you3 maybe 4 choices. . depending on the speaker set up you have you should be able to choose the a speaker setup that you have.

also you can try this and check these settings, right click on the speaker again and click volume mixer and make sure all the volumes slides are up

    Hi,

The audio output of sound cards, MB or PCI, today is 600 ohn LINE OUT. It is not suitable to drive earphones unless they are amplified. Use amplified speakers or an external amp for the earphones.

    Luck, Jim

    Sorry jlphlp,

But the output from the card IS enough to drive headphones, but an amplified set of speakers is required to listen normally.

Am I missing something here? Shouldn't a laptop give decent, maybe not spectacular, sound without needing to plug in speakers? I can hear the sound on my three laptops without using a headset and without using speakers. All three are from different manufacturers but none are running Vista.
What is the point of a laptop if you need to carry amplified speakers around?

    Hi Pup,

Thanks for the info but, I haven't a pair of earphones usable on a 600 ohn line out jack. Most are 8 ohms. An old fashiones high impedance set might do it.
