I searched on the forum for the past 2 hours an found nothing to help my situation so now I'm posting.

Everytime I go to start up my PC its gets past the XP screen then shows lsass.exe (password not correct), then reboots. I've seen alot of other people having problems with this but didnt see any clear answers. Please help i need the computer to work, Thanks for any help

Read and run first - Malware section

If the file is in the wrong place ...it's a virus ...

You could try a repair install to get you up and running again, but you will still have the problems ...so read the above and try to do as much as you can.

Repair install ...boot from cd ....enter to install ....f8 to agreement ..when it finds the previous install, choose R for repair...

I cant seem to run cd's or anything , when I change the boot sequence to have the cd run 1st the computer will still give me the lsass.exe error. Everytime it does that it restarts on me and goes into the endless cycle of restarts. Please....... I'm lost

Its a desktop HP Pavilian 512 mb ram 120g hard drive. I've never had to slave the drive to another computer, that would be nice actually. How would i go about doing that. Im on a borrowed laptop for now, could I do it with this laptop?

No ....not easily and would need special cables ....

Is the computer part of a domain or network ....any usb stuff attached?

What was the error message? and does it shut down by itself or just sits there waiting for a password? Or do you put in your password and then you get the error?

Can you hit cntr+alt+del at the login screen and get access to task manager?

    1. Install the drive in another desktop as a slave.

    2. Copy all "Security" files from D:/Windows/repair into D:/Windows/System32/config .

    3. The drive should now boot again, but since you originally had a password at login time, all files under "My Documents" came back as "Not accessible" when trying to access them.

    4. To recover the "Not accessible" files -- all your documents! -- Download and run PC Inspector File Recovery (free from MG's) which workes great.

Sorry it took so long it only appers for 1 sec before it reboots.
The exact error is: lsass.exe-when trying to update your password, the return status indicates that the value provided as the current password is incorect
I have no chance to do anything before it restarts

That means if isn't a virus ...it's a corrupt file that will not let you into the computer unless you do a complete reformat and reinstall ...(loss everything).

You'll need to do what I posted as to slaving it and copying the security folder ...we need to fix it first before worrying about your login profiles and documents.

To slave the drive ....open the side of your case and unplug the power and ide cable to the hard drive. (THIS is after you have unplugged the computer from the power strip or surge protector ...OFF).

Open the other computer (not the laptop) and after looking at the hard drive and seeing the settings to move the jumper to the slave position ...attach it to the middle connection on that computers IDE cable ...attach power to it and then boot up.

Sorry ....posted at the same time ...yes, another desktop.

will the other computer recodnize the other hard drive automatically? Is their something I could do to not loose information on this hard drive? back it up somehow?

If you slave the hard drive....the computer will see it ....and all your files and folders on the drive ....you could copy critical documents to a removable media (cd) if you want to be extra cautious ....then copy the repair folder to the sys. 32 folder as directed and all should be good to put the drive back into the original computer ...should fire right up.

No ....that is a file on your hard drive ....it has the files you need for your computer ....when you slave the hard drive, it will be recognised by the other system and assigned a drive letter ...could be D, G, F ....you just need to explorer to that drive, and down to that file, right click / copy ....scroll to the sys. 32 config file and paste.
