Lsass shutdown and reboots

I have a Toshiba Satellite PRo P3 1.1 G w/256 Ram running XP Home Edition.

If the rig is not online then it seems to work fine. However when you connect to the internet after 1-3 minutes (times vary) I get a error of "Windows/System32/Lsass.exe has terminated unexpectedly with status code of 1073741819, this system will shutdown and reboot".

I am sure this rig hasn't had all of Win updates since it's been sitting unused since March this year. The rig keeps shutting down before I can get the Win updates downloaded. I have installed and updated Norton Antivirus 2004 with nothing detected. I tried PCpitstop with nothing be detected there either. I downloaded the Blaster fix it tool however there was no blaster worm detected.

I am at the point of just reinstalling the OS and starting over. At least I would know it's done right. However, the problem I encounter with that is it will not let me delete the current fully partioned HD and I don't really want to install XP on top of an problematic XP ? how do I get rid of the old XP without a disk erasure ?

you most likely have contracted the sasser or a sasser variant virus.

• Any task starting with skynetave (for example, skynetave.exe).

• hkey.exe

• msiwin84.exe

• wmiprvsw.exe


I am goint to try the MS sasser tool and see ifthey detect it..
