Does anyone have any personal experiences with it?

I've spent the better part of my day reading about lucid dreaming, and becoming familiar with practices to encourage it.

If you've experienced it, please share a story or three. :)

When I have my nightmares , they are lucid dreams. I can remember everything about it, contorl most of it. The only problem is there is always some entity that I can't see that I end up fighting with. For what ever reason, I become fully aware of where I am and I start going apeshit on the entity and it's an all out brawl to the point my wife has to sit on me and beat me to wake me up.

Other times aren't as lucid, though I do have frequent ones where I am in total control but it is typically the same dream, I just tend to change things around. It's like my groundhog day dream :)

One of my best took place at a cabin at a lake we frequent. Except it looked different and the mountains were taller. Suddenly was this big rumble and we turned and saw abunch of huge giants climbing from the back of the mountains. They stood on top and jumped up and down. the mountains crumbled away and left a huge castle. Suddenly the giants are standing in the castle and they're a heavy metal band. We're all excited waiting for them to play, and when they start, they played country! Noooooooooooooo... Would that be considered a lucid dream?

Haha!! Not quite, but it certainly is a funny one. :D

dictionary.com says: [A lucid dream is] a dream state in which one is conscious enough to recognize that one is in the dream state and which stays in one's memory.

One thing it didn't mention is that you usually have control of what happens, too.

That's pretty interesting. I take it you're not one to consider dreams to be any more than just dreams (random arrangements of thoughts), right?

Random? at first, yes, but when I go to sleep I know that I'm going to dream. My dreams rarely skip into wacky "skits". It's like a movie when I dream. Full color and it usually has some plot to it and it is typically sequential. Yeah, I do get the occassional anomoly but I know that it doesn't make sense in the dream. Heck , I've had dreams where some item in the real world could never perform some function but in the dream , it does. I know it's not supposed to work that way, but I'm like "ok, that's weird.. but it works.." lol. What ends up happening is I keep saying "that's not supposed to be that way " and it reverts to its' natural properties.

It got to a point about when I was 12 or 13 that I couldn't stand incoherent, non cohesive thoughts when I was dreaming. I found it annoying. I had no idea what lucid dreaming was at that age, but I did a lot of bio feedback with my martial arts. THAT'S when I started to get good at it. After my accident at 14, I had horrible nightmares that were just filled with impossible stuff. Been blown up, stabbed, shot, thrown off buildings.. yeah. Ugly stuff.. Eventually I started to regain control. The only thing left is that bugger entity that I can't seem to fight with very well. I always get pinned to a wall or ceiling and can't move.

I've found that when I go to bed, I can choose to dream something and remember it or just skip it for the night and pass out. I also find that when I'm REALLY tired, I have a hard time with controlling my dreams.

For me, it starts with a conscious seed of what I want to do in my dream. Then I start to day dream about it with my eyes closed and eventually the dream roles into that. It's kind of cool.

    And, what accident at 14?

  7. Kodo

    Kodo SNATCHSQUATCH

Dude.. it took a long time to get good at it and I didn't even know I was doing it most of the time. I used to think I was crazy because I knew I was about to start a dream because I could hear people talking.. yeh, if that doesn' t make you think I'm nutz, I don't know what will. Truly, though, it was all part of the dream seed.

I was hit by a drunk driver when I was 14.

Sorry to hear that Kodo. They just passed a law in michigan first offense driving under influence you lose your car, im very happy for that.

    Idiots shouldnt breed.

That doesn't make you nuts at all. It's actually normal to hear noises that aren't really there just before you fall asleep. Most of the time, though, it occurs when we're already unaware that it's happening. The fact that you were still conscious enough to actually hear them is a good sign that you're just a natural lucid dreamer. Being able to say "that's not right...It shouldn't be like that..." is a sure sign of lucidity during dreams. Most dreamers just accept what they see/experience without question.

  10. Kodo

    Kodo SNATCHSQUATCH

yeah, but these weren't just noises.. umm.. they were conversations.. lol. mini ones, but conversations none-the-less . ;)

I used to wake up (sometimes I still do) and shake it off like "ok, we're going that direction tonight".. and I'd start over.

I had a dream once that I was seeing through somebody else's eyes, like I was in her head. She happened to be a sniper. Her and another woman were in a building and scoping out a guy in the next building. It was in a big city. He was a terrorist that they were supposed to take out. She was hesitating and I had to tell her to take the shot a couple of times. Pretty soon she shoots. The rifle recoils and I lose sight of the target for a second. When the scope returns, he's down with a hole in his head. That was the strangest dream that I can remember. Especially since I'm such a male chauvinist, I can't understand why they were women.

Kodo i have the dream about the ENTITY the thing is you have to confront it.

This thing there is many book about it and i even seen a documentory on the
    learning channel.

In the begining a was always running from him then NO MORE.

I have lucid dreaming to , So one time the ENTITY was one the right side
off my bed and i knows i was dreaming and i say to hit the next i see you
i will squish you like i little bug. Never saw him again (thruth story).

The one thing a hate about the ENTITY you can't never see his face just
    one humain black form.....

So this is my experience with lucid dreaming,oh and i can't wake up everetime
i want when i dream so this is fun when thing turn ugly i wake up and say HA HA !!!

  13. Kodo

    Kodo SNATCHSQUATCH

see, I can't see mine at all. I can only feel it coming.. I hear a low humm and then I know it's go time. I do confront it.. Infact, I when I hear/feel that hum, I can feel myself smiling or smirking like "bring it on bitch". My wife keeps waking me up though so I can never finish.

One time she jumped on top of me and was pounding on my chest and I when I woke up, I yelled at her " I wasn't finished with that mother f****r ... next time leave me sleeping".. she didn't like that too much. Complained she couldn't sleep. I told her I need to finish "it" so I can get on with what ever, that if I don't complete the battle that it'll just keep on happening.

Dude, that's awesome...It's like Highlander or something! "There can be only ONE!!!" ;)

  15. Kodo

    Kodo SNATCHSQUATCH

yeah.. at first the battles were so violent that I couldn't follow what was going on.. after i started to get a handle on it, I changed my tune. This is the cool part..

I used to change how I interacted with the dream world. I would invent "powers" that let me do all sorts of superhero things and when I started to over use them, that's when "it" would come, like it was something supernatural or something.

  16. Gottheit

    Gottheit General Logic

Wow...Kind of like a construct of your dream intended to keep everything in equilibrium?

But there's gotta be something else behind it...Have you examined it from the POV that "it" is actually some other part of you? Maybe you have some antagonistic traits you've been struggling with...I don't know man. Just throwing out vague ideas.

  17. Kodo

    Kodo SNATCHSQUATCH

well, I suffer from post traumatic stress syndrome. I believe I know what "it" is on a basic level and I know that I will never be able to completely defeat "it".. maybe subdue it for a period of time but "it" will always return when I either call for it (and I've done that before) or when I feel most vulnerable in life. "it" in its' most basic form is my complete frustration with life, with people, and pure evil. It's my other side.. just when I feel like I have accomplished something in life, I realize that I've only scratched the surface and I have to battle with the overwhelming emotions of failure. "it" is my failure on some subconscious level.

  18. Gottheit

    Gottheit General Logic

So, basically you're saying that no matter how well you perform in day-to-day life, there's always some anicipation of failure in the future? And you want to be prepared for it if/when it occurs?

On very rare occasion do I remember my dreams, let alone be awake enough to live them. . . .But for my wife, dreams are more real than reality. . .when she dreams something will happen. . it does. .creepy really( I dont want to get into to much detail) but she tells me a dream, and a week later there ya go. . .my wifes brain is overactive anyway. . .kinda like the guy who fell asleep under a tree and figured out the universe and awoke. . .
one time., she had a dream where she had come to me and my back was covered in blood and whip lashings. . and a couple weeks later. .I had Hives. .that happend to look like whip lashings. .there are more, but to to go into detail. . .

I remember a few of the sort. . .one was me dieing in a war(I could smell the death it was so real). . .so I swore I would never enlist. .well I did. . I am on disability, but I am alive. . . .

  20. Kodo

    Kodo SNATCHSQUATCH

partly.. I mean , I KNOW that I can't know it all and that's how I used to set myself up for failure. Ya get older, ya get more accepting of some of these facts in life. More recently "it" has been more or less a reminder of my failures, hate and anxiety .. the fear of the uknown. My battles with it are just me saying that I'm not open to failure on the level where what I do know and the path I wish to take are roads that I will not set my self up to fail in.

here's another one for you that tangents Jarchers' wifes' dreams. I sometimes dream about a programming solution, wake up when I'm finished ,go downstairs and write it, and it works.. :D

Has KODO said "IT" or the entity some people call. I think is are dark side
and stuff we don't want to deal with.....

That 's why "IT" appear from time to time in the our dream in the subconcius level that's a way to dealing with it .....

But they are many theory about the stuff and kodo about the programming
solution it happen to me to but with game sometime i play a game (rpg) i gets stuck and sleep on it.then i have a dream about it and i try the thing and it work .....

  22. jarcher

    jarcher I can't handle a title

I have done that, figured out a problem in my sleep, and than applied it in the morning. . .
its when you actuall do the work, asleep, time to worry
there's a differance between sleepwalking( peeing in the fridge whilst you sleep)
and sleep working, not being at work asleep(guilty) but getting up getting dressed and going to work still asleep. . .
when I had a job at a distribution centre awhil back, I had to staple many tall box's. they where above my head so there was a pulling down motion(kinda like the "victory" *yes* movement) I would do that in my sleep over and over. . .I tol my wife about the "jerking" in my sleep(well. . not that, but I know a guy. . .) and she worked in food service at the time and she would wait tables and ring up their bills in her sleep and have that typing motion. . .

but one dream she had she was getting dragged by a "figure" and in her head she was screaming and moving around. . while her conscience was trying to move her arm and call me. . she knew she was dreaming, and she was trying to get my attention so I could wake her up. .sometimes we all want to know what goes on in the minds of our others. .but some things . . . .

Ever have a loved one that passed, come to visit when your asleep? They are the clearest dreams I've ever had. Not to mention that I felt rewarded, that they chose to visit me, in the here and now. Pretty cool.
