    Hi,

I am very new to this website but it has been recommended to me. I don't even know if I am in the correct bit! I am pretty computer illiterate anyway.

My problem is that I have a lunatic cursor!

My lap top is new - at least about two months old - it is an 'HP - Compaq 6735s' but the cursor leaps vertically up and down the screen at some lunatic rate. I have tried the mouse in all the ports but it still does this without the mouse connected. I have discovered that if I very lightly put a finger on the mouse pad it will stop the movement and I can then use the mouse but that is very inconvenient. It is not always there - in fact at the moment it is OK but this seems to be sometimes when I switch the computer on and then usually a short time later it comes back again.

    Any ideas?

    Thank you, Anne

This is a hardware problem IMO and is probably covered by the warranty. If you have any personal data on the PC, or anything you don't want to lose, burn it to some CD/DVD discs then return to the place of purchase with the laptop and explain what's going on. Show them if possible. At the very least, they should repair the touch pad, but will likely just give you a new laptop (assuming it is still under warranty).
