Lynx website compatibility

This isn't as much of a computer problem as much as just a question. I started experimenting with Lynx and discovered that it works well with some sites, and not at all in others.

I can't help but realize that Majorgeeks.com's website works very well in this browser. In fact, I am using it to type this post right now. Is Lynx's ability to function determined by how well the web designers follow certain rules (I forget what they are called), or is it just luck?
