Hi! I've been working on file compression and am doing exceptional on one but only pretty well on another. Now, I want to implement LZ77 on low-end 8-bit computers and calculate that, on such systems, I'll need at least 4k BSS RAM for LZ77 hash-table data but will probably require more for good compressibility. This may not work on some small 8-bit systems. I'm looking for an alternative that will cost less and am willing to sacrifice slight speed for it. Is there one? BTW, should I post about the technique that's doing only pretty well and ask for help?
