    I'm going to buy a mac/apple Laptop.

I could use any input from people who use them on what I should shop for.
I don't want to get ripped off by buying an older model becouse its a good deal.
What do I need to look for when shopping?

    Thank you for all Input.

(I would use it for general PCing, Minor graphics and of course web browsing)

Used Dos (really miss it!) and Windows all my life.

    Thanks again,
    Matt

Stick with an iBook for that sort of work.

    And wait.

Wait until they start shipping with the Intel CPUs.

Do you think the intel chip will be alot better?

I thought the ibm cpu macs used even outperformed amd, let alone intel, so why wait for a slow, overheating cpu?

Edit number 2000. I can't seem to find a satisfactory way to say what I want.

In a nutshell--the performance gap has pretty much been closed, and in some cases, surpassed.

Time will tell. The more important feature, to me anyway, is that using Intel should allow someone to dual boot OS X and Windows, if needed. Thats a huge advantage.

The Yonah core, which is going to be used, is a dual core CPU. There is a single core Yonah as well. Time will tell to see which Apple will use.

You also need to understand that the advantage of a Mac these days is not in the hardware, its in the software. The G5, which is Apple's flagship CPU, (or IBM, depending on how you look at it) has performance problems.

Thanks Adrynalyne, I think I'll wait.
I just hope I'm not going to have the "new product Problems" if I jump on a new technology or system.

When is the expected release date?

    Thanks,
    Matt

it depends on price as to what machine i would recommend but i agree if money is no object buy an intel mac but currently the are restricted to a 15.4 in screen but they are nice. esp. the 1.83ghz dual-core if you need it now and want a cheaper solution buy an ex demo model or buy from a shop which has left over stock. i would buy a ti-book if you cannot wait they vary in price depending on what you need they are better than an i-book but are a more professional machine which is not required for what you want to do.
