I ran my computer for quite a while without shutting it down (we're talking 3 weeks). I went away and forgot that I had left it running. I shut it down remotely using realVNC.

Now, everytime I try to shut down the computer, it gets to the "Windows is Shutting Down..." screen and after about 5 minutes the cursor will either freeze, or I will get a BSOD with a MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION.

The thing is, the computer seems to be running fine, but I can't shut it down without having some problem. What could be causing this? I would imagine if it was memory, HD etc. the computer wouldn't boot, or would get this error while running. Any ideas?
