Macrium Reflect Options?

    Hi All ~

I've been away from all things Windows for over a dozen years now. As a Mac user, I got used to cloning our system drives using a (Mac only) utility called Carbon Copy Cloner (CCC). When we recently had a project come up that required legacy PC software, we purchased an oldish Dell M4700 Mobile Workstation that's still in great condition. It came to us with Windows 11, Office 2019 and Photo Shop 2020 installed, so, before I get into running the legacy (Win XP) utility I just mentioned, I'd really like to clone the M4700's system (SSD) drive to one of our archive HDDs.

I've been informed that the free edition of Macrium Reflect will do what we need, but there is more than one option on the Major Geeks download page: Download (8.1.7544), Download (32-Bit), Download (64-Bit) or Download (Bootable Rescue). I've ruled out the bootable rescue link, but I'm not sure which of the other three links to choose from? Once again, I'd like to create a clone image of the Windows 11 OS installed on the new [to us] M4700 laptop via an external USB archive HDD.

Thank you for giving this a read.

The real choice is 32 or 64 bit - you need the 64 bit version. You say you want to create 'a clone image' but clones and images are two entirely different things. If you really mean clone I guess you are aware that a clone will require its own disk which can only be used to replace the M4700's current hard drive in case the current disk fails or develops problems. A better alternative is to use Reflect to write an image of the M4700 system disk to another disk. Such an image file can be used at any time to write the image back to the current HDD or to a replacement. I believe I'm correct in saying the free version can also be used to create new images which may be desirable in the event the 4700 system gets updated. You cannot create incremental image files though without the paid for version. Restoring such an image also requires that you create a bootable rescue disk on a small flash drive which you can do within the MR program.

Hope this is helpful but happy to answer any other questions you may have about MR.

Rescuezilla or ReDo Rescue, they are free and will create an image of the drive for backup.
