    Hi,
After running Avg, the test comes back clean with no virus, but when I look at the details of the test result it tells me "found some macros", or "contains macros"- how do I remove these.
    Thanks

Many applications (such as MS Office apps) can use macros, which are not inherently harmful. A macro is basically a series of commands or mouse movements that perform a task automatically rather than manually, saving time and effort. The danger comes when macro viruses are hidden within say, a Word document, executing commands without your knowledge and replicating themselves by infecting more documents.

One thing you can do (besides using a good, updated antivirus program) is to use something like ScripTrap which will alert you when a macro or script (good or bad) tries to execute, giving you the choice to allow it or not.
