Clear your temp files and reboot, and try the download again. That's always been a pesky download to get right the first time, at least since Adobe bought it.

Yes, try the download again. Reboot the computer first.

Yes. Make sure you go to add/remove programs, remove all of the adobe stuff. Clean the temp files as suggested and then go to adobe: http://www.adobe.com/downloads/ and start over. Reboot between cleaning, removing and again after installing.

Fellow Geeks: Here's "the fix" which worked for me...

A few months ago; I was also having the exact same "already been installed" problem. Every time I went to a site that required Flash to view any videos; the site would invariably produce an error message saying that I needed to "upgrade" my Macromedia Flash Player. When I'd then upgrade and return to the video sites; I would continue to receive the same exact error over and over again!

According to the information provided in this "Uninstallation" link, which Bladesofhalo gave me at that time: “Due to recent enhancements with the Flash Player installers, you are now only able to uninstall by using the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller.” The proper "uninstaller" tool is available at that same link (above).

In any case, the Adobe Flash Player Uninstaller listed at the link above fixed this problem (in a "flash") and allowed me to install the latest version of the Adobe Flash Player, which can be found at this link without any problems; and I'm now able to view videos again!

I contacted the "support" at the flash site after this happened and was told that many of the more aggressive cleaning and registry cleaning programs are most often times, the "root cause" of this problem. Flash uses "ActiveX" and if you have you have your cleaner set to remove the ActiveX registry entries, this can cause your computer's Flash Playing capability to go on the blink.

Side Note: Thanks again to both Major Geeks forum members Bladesofhalo and JerkyKing for providing the links to "fix" this annoying problem a few months back!

    Good Luck!

I have been trying for several hours to re-download Flash Player today after my existing version just stopped working today. I followed the links in this thread & uninstalled it then tried to re-install, with IE, Netscape & Firefox but had no luck.

I went to the Adobe forums & read that this has been a problem for months & Adobe have not addressed it. One user had success by downloading it from a mirror site but when I try to that, it downloands a .dmg file that asks for an associated program & I cannot complete the installation.

If anyone knows of a mirror site where it can be downloaded then I'd be grateful to hear about it.

Ditto...I've been through this thread to the letter and still not been able to successfully download it either. Ever since my laptop came back from a replacement HD and RAM install I cannot get Macromedia on it.
