    Hello,

    I'm not really sure if this sort of 'problem' is right for this site - but thought I'd ask anyway. It's more-so a problem with doing something in Flash as opposed to getting Flash to work or any technical problems with the program itself - if it's not suitable then just close the thread to let me know. :)

    I'm wanting to make the basics of a website, it won't be launched or anything like that but it needs to be somewhere near decent (long boring story)

    Right, well, basically, I want a website of about 4 pages. The home page will consist of a few bits of text, a video and 4 buttons along the top, which will slide in from left to right and set.

    I've got this bit sorted but wanted to paint a sort of picture for you. (Lucky you) - Where is the issue?

    Well, for now, I've just got a nice page with the above stuff on it - but with zero interactivity. The main issue is the buttons. I obviously want the click of one of these buttons to bring me to a new page of the 'site' - I'm just 100% unaware of how this is done. How do I;

    1) Make the buttons 'clickable'
    2) Make the buttons bring me to the associated page.

    The buttons are imported like everything else on the page. So I assume I have 'convert as.' a button? :rolleyes:

    I doubt it matters what flash I'm using, but it's '8' if anyone needs to know.

    Appreciate any help at all, as it's quite an important thing to be done.

    Thanks. :)

    This is where Lapsed should come in, he knows everything about flash, but I'll see if I remember rightly!

    Right, you've created your button/text/whatever. Then right click it and choose convert to symbol and then choose button. Then on the actions pane at the bottom, expand it.

    Then you need to type

    In the speech marks, you want your frame/keyframe.
    Hope this helps!

    By the way, if you it to play, it can also be "gotoAndPlay"

    Edit : To get to this option you need to follow this -

    Thanks very much for your reply!

    That'll be very useful for what I'm looking to do, but bit of a newbie question here;

    If I make a site, will it all be in the same timeline?

    I was under some sort of impression that there was a timeline for each page as opposed to it all being in one go.

    I thought this because of the 'folder' option in Flash - this I did not really understand.

    I get what you're saying in regards to frame number and that, but if the whole lot is in one timeline then it'll be a lot easier for me to work with.

    Cheers once again.

    Yes all one timeline and different frames/keyframes for each page too! Some people forget this, I'd recommend keyframes so you can keep a similar layout. You'll have to let me know when you're finished, I'd be interested to see it! :)

    It'll not be anything great, to be honest.

    I'll let you know why I'm on seeking advice. I'm doing a computer course at college this year. Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Director and similar programs.

    I'm familiar with DW & PS but was looking foward to learning Flash - as most people who can turn on a computer know it produces excellent results when worked properly - long story short, we were taught pure basics of flash (tweening, drawing shapes :eek:) and about 10 minutes worth of actionscripting, all of which has deserted me, then we were landed with an assignment which basically read;

    "Make a Flash website or interactive document"

    ...And I thought: "Oh goody"

    As did everyone in our class. The only people who are getting on with the actual assignment are the ones who knew Flash before hand.

    Granted Flash isn't *that* hard, it's still a daunting task to make something of a website with the limited knowledge I have.

    Another thing, I have my buttons sliding in and I have a point on the home page where I want everything to stop as it is, until something is clicked again. Where do I insert the actionscript (on any layer or a seperate layer?) and what A/S do I use to stop it?

    Obviously I need the page to stop, otherwise it's going to have about 3000 frames until someone selects something. :D

    Thanks for your assistance so far. :)

    stop;

    Or something like that. If you go onto the action pane and choose the criss-cross button (blue cross thingy!), go along the top options and choose stop, that should stop it.

    Best of luck.

    Hey,

    Thanks for that. Surprisingly I got it to work, it plays then stops. :eek:

    I have a video clip in the bottom right hand corner, once my timeline plays and stops - I'd like this video to play again when the mouse moves over it or close to the video. Does this sound at all possible? I tried a few A/S's but nothing actually worked, unfortunately.

    Cheers. :)

    Nah, no worries.

    Forgot about Flashkit, thanks!

    Where'd you get your XP theme from, by the way? Looks very cool.

    Thanks once again mate.
