I recently purchased a Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 and as usual I rushed into my project without fully reading the directions. In my haste to finish quickly i failed to plug in the 12v 4 pin connector. After Windows install and ridding a few Norton bugs it ran pretty well...seemed just a teeny weenie sluggish....The manual states that the cpu will not run without the 12v connector.....is this even possible....and lastly should i do a clean install for fear of missing max performance

Yes it is possible,I think just plug the 4pin 12v in and let her run if you got windows to load you should be alright.

Speaking of the NeoPower 480, did you find the back of the unit to be quite warm to the touch? Perhaps even a bit more than quite warm?

The 4 pin 12v isn't really that important. It's just a backup, sort of to help if needed. It, in itself isn't needed. I've left it out many times on boards because I was using older power supply that didn't have the 4 pin 12v cord and never had a problem.

Just plug it in sometime when the computer is off, no need to reinstall or anything special at all.

I don't totally agree with that it is there to give power to the cpu and is important for stability.

I do agree certain systems run without it how good I duno, and agree also that no reinstall should be nessesary.

The 4pin 12v line is for dedicated CPU power it feeds directly into the mobo CPU voltage regulators most mobos will work without it thow ( thay draw power from the ATX plug if the 12v input is to low or not thare ) but its is normaly bad for the mobo and can make for a stibility problem...............
