    Hi, all!

I use Office Outlook for my mails, and thus far no real problems, but just now something really weird happened...

I was cleaning out my DELETED ITEMS box as I usually do when it becomes too cluttered up. Must have cleared around 150 items, and returned to my INBOX - only to discover that somehow all my mails had also disappeared from there, only two items remaining. Now - I KNOW I did NOT delete all those items - in fact, there were still mails to reply to, and I usually make sure that I do NOT delete necessary items from that section unless I have really finished with them.

Any possibility at all of retrieving these mails, or is it a lost cause?

    Your advice, please?

    Thanks in anticipation!

What version of Outlook? Using POP3 or IMAP as access? Is Microsoft Exchange the email server (meaning is this an office environment)?

Hello, Jconstan, thanks for your prompt reply to my query.

I'm using POP3, and work at home - no, I'm not "working" per se - I'm retired and just keep in touch with friends and family. In view of this info, I would not be suprised if there is no way I can retrieve amy of the mails I lost, but it would be interesting to read what possibilities there are - however remots.

    Once again, thanks in anticipation.

Best wishes from a VERY hot South Africa!!! Midsummer here!

OK. Do you have any backups of your Outlook PST files?

I don't understand how files would be removed from the INBOX without going into the DELETED folder even if you deleted them unintentionally.

If you have configured Outlook to deliver email to you and then delete them from the email server, you may be out of luck. If not, you can log directly onto your POP3 server and your emails should still be there.

Hello, all, many thanks for your input re: my missing mails from my inbox - frankly, even my son - who is quite clued up - searched everywhere but could find nothing of the missing items, so I've accepted the fact that these mails are floating somewhere in the uttermost black depths of cyberspace and there is nothing that can be done to bring them back. Ah-well, perhaps some alien might pick them up on his very much advanced equivalent of our computer, read them and decide there's nothing in them on which he can blackmail me! I've learned one thing in my long life - you need a good sense of humour to survive, and I have to admit the idea of an alien trying to figure out what all that jargon means does make me smile!
    Thanks again, and g'night, all!
