I recently built a pc with a DFI KT600 - AL motherboard, athlon xp 2600, 1gig ram, radeon 9800 pro, one hard drive, one dvd drive and a 300 watt power supply. When I run SiS Software's Sandra it says my mainboard temp is too high. It averages around 52C. My cpu even under high strain situations stays in the high 30C's. So my cpu is fine but my main board has gone up to 60C during games and stuff. I have one 80mm fan in the front and two in the back. All the fans are facing the correct direction and are pulling large amounts of air through my system. I had two fans in the front and one in the back and the mainboard temp got up to 59C idle. What is wrong with my setup? Could the motherboard be bad, or is the thermometer screwy, or is Sandra known for inaccuracies?

Thats almost certainly a bad reading. the "mainboard" temperature would basically be the air temperatre, or the power regulator temperature. Power regulators get real hot, might be that the sensor is positioned badly (like right next to a wire) or Sandra isnt reading the right value from the BIOS (that happens often too). Either way, its GOT to be erronious, as half the plastic in your PC would start to get gooey. lol. You would physically burn yourself by touching the metal casing.

Thanx for the feed back. This is the first pc i've built from the ground up so I'm a little paranoid.

Sandra is definitely identifying the readings backwards. 30's would definitely be the motherboard, and 50s would be the CPU.

Both readings are l little on the high side, although not dangerously so. You might want to look into better cooling a bit.

Funny enough it seems that with whatever version of Sandra I use it has had those two temp reading back to front for years and on many different mobos I have used.

I tend to either use the Bios temp readings ( let your PC run for a few hours then reboot and enter bios to get a true-ish reading ) or I use MBM from the desktop, its IMO the best temp app out their ( may need a bit of reading and a look at the settings page on MBMs site or a search of the forum their to correctly identify the mobos temp sensors ) http://www.majorgeeks.com/download311.html

if you need further assistance on which temp sensors control what temp readings then Alex whos software it is, will give you help if you post in his forum
