Hi all, I am a new person to windows 7. I got everything all installed and working fine, but I can't figure out how to get my ATI video card to maintain aspect ratios for games. I downloaded the catalyst control center for it, but there's no option for this! On XP it was very easy, there was a place to just click it, but now that option is not there. Any help would be VERY appreciated! :)

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, White97TA...

A little confused here: do you mean aspect ratio, or resolution? And, where did you 'click it' with XP?

I mean aspect ratio, you click it in the ATI (CCC) Catalyst Control Center. When I go to play a game, the screen is all stretched out instead of staying at the resolution I want it to. Some games don't support wide screen resolutions, and it looks very bad stretched all the way out, I'd rather have the black sides to it. But as I said the new CCC for windows 7 doesn't have this option.

Ok, so I have tried even older catalyst programs, and they all have the same problem. I guess I should include one other small bit of info, not sure if it will help at all. When I open the CCC and click the graphics tab, go to desktops & displays, then click on the lil triangle on the bottom picture and click configure. It takes me to the welcome page again!! This is so frustrating. I am running windows 7 ultimate x86 by the way...

Are you in basic or advanced mode?

I'm running windows 7 x64, and when I click configure, it takes me to a seperate menu (Attributes, avivo color, scaling options, hdtv support, lcd overdrive). I'm also running the HD5870

I finally got an answer on the ATI forums. This is what worked for me, in case anyone else has the same problem and searches here. Yes theefool I was in advanced mode, I just couldn't get to what you are seeing. When I clicked configure it just took me back to the welcome screen you start with when you open CCC. Maybe the difference is I am on a 32 bit OS.

What has usually happened is that after you have installed the latest Cat drivers, Windows Update has installed an earlier driver on top. It is a known issue for Win7.

Turn Windows Update to notify, Uninstall the drivers, Reboot, then re-install the latest Cat drivers. If Windows Update offers you the driver again, choose hide.

One other thing I had to do was lower my screen resolution before it would let me get to that as well.
