    Hi

I am now using Windows 7 it's awesome, but now I have issues with my router that I never had before with XP

I have an Edimax router and an Edimax PCI mimo wireless card.
I am running WPA2 encryption. There are no channel conflicts I am on channel 10 and my neighbours router is on channel 11.

It will work fine for a few days then out of the blue I switch my machine on and windows says it can identify the network WTF???? :cry

I try and repair it and it says:

"Wireless Network Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

Even a reboot of the PC wont fix it, the only way to fix it is to reset the router and this happens at least once a week.

It never happened on XP so I am at a loss

Can anyone help? I got the latest drivers for my wireless card, they don't do W7 drivers but I got the Vista ones

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi

Check for Firmware updates to your Routers model and driver updates to your PCI mimo card (more the Firmware update), some older routers while worked in WinXP do work in Win7 but tend to have some issues on connectivity at times due to changes in the OS, that require a Firmware update.

Also try disabling Autotuning the instructions HERE are for Vista but work for Win7, do them manually and remember you need to open a command prompt window as an Admin, instructions are in the KB article.

OK I've upgraded router firmware, the pci card doesn't have a firmware upgrade option (checked the website)

I did that CMD prompt thingy aswell, so I'll post back in a few weeks to let you know if it worked or not. Thanks again

    Hi MZPRESTO

So all seems ok for now after the firmware update? if so indeed do see how it goes for a while, and post back if still the same, maybe we can find another route to take, cheers for the status update.

Well... so far it appears to be working.

I did boot the machine the other day though and it had no connection but it let me do a repair connection and connected, however... the connection seemed slow and sluggish.

I have a laptop that loads websites in lightening speed, and it just has a built in adapter, standard model, but my desktop PC has a better spec, it has a PCI edimax wireless card with 3 antennas and the signal was excellent, yet laptop was still faster at browsing the same sites at the same time.

Seems odd. Laptop runs Vista, Desktop PC runs Windows 7. Have no spyware and barest essentials running on a clean format hard drive as only just installed.

Something is making my connection a bit sluggish from time to time and I just can't explain it.

Thanks though cause at least I don't have to do the router reset anymore! Which is awesome!
