Major Drive Problems

Ready??

1) I get frequent startup problems - (starting 1-2 weeks ago) whenever the startup began, the desktop turned on, most of my startup programs are disabled. My PrevX, my ObjectDock, my Widgets..they all come up with the SORRY FOR INCONVENIENCE message and disappear..and ultimately my internet won't work when that happens. I try getting on AIM, but it freezes at the signon and shows a little white box, try getting on Firefox but my homepage won't even show up.

I REALLY want to fix this, because I find myself restarting 2-3 times to get it working properly.

2) "Corrupted Files" messages, I get it on my Ares (P2P program) file for this file I D/Led a LONG time ago, but I canceled it, but it somehow found its way back into the shared folders under ARESTRA (meaning still downloading or something)...now it says THE FILE IS CORRUPTED, RUN CHKDSK everytime I start up and open up Ares...well I've run chdksk with literally every parameter applying to my predicament and - zip, nothing. It doesn't really affect anything, but I feel like its spreading the corrupted files into everything...including my AIM Triton (which I promptly removed thereafter), a photoshop brush file, my original AIM (which I had to remove but I reinstalled and now its back...probably not long until the corrupted infection spreads on to it.)

Please help me, I have Ewido, Spy Sweeper, but still hasn't rid of the problem, I'd like to stop it now before it destroys everything and spreads.

 

Check for malware here first to rule it out, then if the prob continues it can be properly addressed.

 

Does chkdsk actually find errors, even if they don't get repaired?

 

Erikske-No, everytime I try running it, it says it'll run when I reboot..so I confirmed it..never get anything..

 

If it isnt malware or a virus have you tried a system file check. Assuming you have XP go start run and type in 'sfc /scannow' without the quotes and have your XP cd ready.

Can you access the recovery console? On systems shipped without CD, it should be one of the options in the windows boot selection menu (looks like this in win2000, almost identical in XP).
If you can access it, try running chkdsk /f /r from there.

 

Ive tried like clicking F2 and othre various things...but I cant get into it

 

You can try your disk manufacturers diagnostic tool. What brand is your HD?

 

A Dell..but its not a BIG CPU like the full thing...its mini sized and I have an ELO attached
