    Hello,
Go into safe mode by tapping F8 at startup and then select "Use last known good configuration" I am afraid this program may have deleted important system files.

Please read the following. Is this the program you used?

    http://www.tech-faq.com/ucleaner.html

Edit: You may have luck doing a system restore before the program was installed.

I tried to go to the web site because I noted the date on the program as 2007 and got this about a bad link from MajorGeeks:
Then I tried NKProd because of the info I found here http://publisher.brothersoft.com/nkprod..html
and got sent to a blank page http://www.nkprod.ro/

I don't think the company exists any more.

In the future, before you try an old program, look around a bit and see if it is being kept up to date. With all the windows patches, things that worked 4 or 5 years ago might not work so well today.

Ok. thank you very much for that. I'm now working as normal after a system restore. Do you know of any other similar programmes that will help clean up crap from my computer like empty files and the such to help it run quicker?

CCleaner is a fine program that is used by many people. It's a tiny bit conservative, but that's better than being overly aggressive. You can get it here on MGs at http://majorgeeks.com/CCleaner_Standard_d5125.html

And thanks to MGs and before you make the plunge you can even view a little tutorial on that page that explains what CCleaner does.

I use CCleaner just before I shut my computer down and it keeps the crap from accumulating (and it will accumulate very quickly left unattended). Takes about 5-10 seconds each time when there's no accumulation to deal with. It also has some more advanced features like registry cleaning if you know what you're doing. Try it; you'll like it :)

I've never heard that running CCleaner has hurt anything at all on anyone's computer.

I use CCleaner too. It is not as aggressive as other programs but my reasoning is that I'd rather have a working computer with a few extra things in the registry than a non-working computer because a cleaner removed something that was needed!

You might want to read Fred Langa's take (Nov. 2011). http://windowssecrets.com/top-story/putting-registry-system-cleanup-apps-to-the-test/
I tried one of the cleaners he recommends jv16 Power Tools but I didn't like it; there were too many choices and for me that means more ways to get into trouble cleaning.

That sounds like damned good advice!!! Thank you ever so much for your help. I will give it a read when the babies sleep tonight and try to download it.

It sounds like exactly what I need.

You may want to install CCleaner Slim instead of the standard version. It functions exactly the same as the standard version which comes with some crapware. The slim version is updated about a week after the standard version.
