major issue

Hello,

I was given a latop by my former employer fully installed. Recently, I wanted to change to Norton 360 and had trouble trying to instal the software because it wanted me to remove an earlier version. I could not delete this version because it required a password that I did not have. I searched around the configurations and changed a setting from "this is a network" to "this is a home office PC". It required a restart and when I got the logon screen I typed my old user ID and password. The logon would not work. I am assuming because I changed the setting from network to home. Question, how can I get back in without a password and change the setting back so I can logon? I was trying to overwrite security issue in order to install the new software and be able to delete the old version. Please tell me there is a way to get back in the PC! help in NC

Have you tried booting in safe mode?

 

OhYes! Tried every function key and safe mode many times. I have a feeling I changed something in the BIOS at some point. It has definitely been a source of frustration at this point. I think I need to seek out expert help!

 

Well unfortunately I don't have much experience in that area ... however if you run out of options you can plug the drive into another machine and recover any valuable files and data off there and then do a clean install ... because by the sounds of things there has been a Systems Administrator on there who set certain security protocols, if you do a re-install you will wipe those protocols and set the computer back to defaults.
