I've got multiple problems with Media Player on my win98se. Currently
have version 9 loaded. When trying to play local .wav or .mid files, it
crashes. MP3's result in C00D1199 errors (Windows Media Player cannot
play the file. The file is either corrupt or the player doews not
support the format...). When trying to access websites with video -
news or sports sites (my daughter desperately wants to watch NCAA
basketball), I can't get the video. At one time I was getting audio but
no video but that no longer happens either.

Media Player 6.4 plays the audio and .avi files with no problem. I've tried to
reinstall, uninstall and reinstall version 7.1 and shut down my
    Zonealarm firewall.

Any ideas would be much appreciated!

Take pity on us guys who would tear our hair out, but don't even have
enough of that left to do so...

I've looked around that site. Just uninstalled, tried to clean some things out with EasyCleaner (Registry and unnecessary files) rebooted and reinstalled.
Mp3's still result in errors and .avi and .wav cause Media Player to crash.

Have not yet reinstalled video drivers, audio drivers, or directX. Don't know how much help that would be...

    Thanks.
