major problem

hi
im trying to fix a friends comp thats never been cleaned (cookies,temps)no firewll, antivirus etc ever
its knackered...............
it has 3 trojans and a virus and that was after a 2 min microsoftantispyware scan then it shut down
it keeps flashing different colours and shutting down wont boot up properly etc
so i have managed to
1, turn off system restore
2, clean cookies temp files and recycle bin
3, erase the 10 dialers from internet options
4, block pop ups in IE
5, ran msconfig and took off 32 start up enteries

then went to clear aol cache and it crashed

well anyway the trojans didnt like this and are now worse than ever, i cant even boot up now

does anyone know how i can get it back to windows as i know what to do from there but just cant get to it

Follow the steps outlined here! Very helpful! I'd wager this article will help you do a better, more thorough job of removing malware.

You can try to access windows in safe mode by tappin F8 as soon as you power on you computer. You should be able to run AV applications from there.

i cant actually to windows welcome screen, im fine with the rest once im there but i think i will need to completely restore windows first
does anyone know if that cd from pc begginer is any good?

 

You can't even get to safe mode? Do you even get the menu when you press F8 when you power on your system?

 

sometimes when i turn it on its blank and just makes a noise then sometimes it runs the memory test and says f1 to continue then all the flashing colours come up and sometimes a square blue box comes up asking me which method to use to boot up like cd/dvd drive of floppy etc
if on the rare occation i get on to windows it crashes not long after

 

It makes a noise when you power it on? A beeping? Whirring?

Are you tapping F8 repeatedly? Just keep hittin her after you power on, and you shoudl arrive at a menu. Sorry to be so insistent, but you're making no indication that you are trying this step, or what is happening when you do.

 

it changes every time i boot up
safe mode just wont come up, it usually goes to the menu then u choose safe mode then u have to click on windows xp tab but it just goes straight to winddows xp tab and boots up in normal mode.

nope it wont even recognise it.................i know theres a start page hijacker on it and a boot sector virus aswell as about a million more probably!!!

if i could just get on to windows id be fine but it wont have any of it, just keeps flashing stupid colours at me

How about a boot floppy? You can get one from www.bootdisk.com even a win98 one would do...if you could get to a command prompt, you might be able to do something....
