I figured i should use the system restore disk to solve my earlier problem with my sister's laptop. when i went to turn the thing on it starts and then shuts down before anything shows on the screen. not even the windows logo gets up there it starts to run and then shuts down within two or three seconds after hitting the power button.

    someone please help!

This looks like a CPU overheat problem maybe the cooling fan or heat sink is malfunctioning, or not contacting the CPU thus causing the system to go into a safe mode and shut itself off.

This could also be a Power Supply problem.

    :) :D :D ;)

That's what I was thinking. I replaced a power supply in a compaq for the very same thing once.
