Major Problems Please Help

As of right now I am having problems with windows media player. There is a website with videos on it, www.streetfire.net (work safe) They do not allow you to download them so I downloaded WM Recorder to save the videos to my hard Drive, fine. As of two days ago I was watching a video and went to record it and WM Recorder didnt work so I uninstalled it. I later tryed to view the video and it did not load. It said ready but when i pressed play it did nothing.

The videos offline worked just fine. Someone told me to uninstalled WMP and reinstall it. I did that. NOW i cannot view videos offline/on my HD. I try to goto microsoft.com and get WMP 10 but I cannot download it because it gives me an error "The operation was refused when attempting to contact go.microsoft.com"

I tryed everything and I gave up. I wanted to do a system restore but it did not open at all. I click it and it will get the hour glass picture but not open. I google'd it and it reenabled it but it did nothing. I did virus/ad-aware/spybot/hijack this scans and turned up nothing.

Sounds like when you uninstalled WMP, you lost your codecs. I recommend that you get VLC media player. It will play your file for you.

Also, if you fear malware infection, there is a GREAT thread about that in the spyware forum. I definitely recommend that as well.

 

VLC Wont help me play the videos online.

Where can I get the WMP codec

 

WMP works off line but online i get a white blank screen.

ok i got wmp to work offline fine. when i goto streetfire.net to try to play a video it looks like this......

Have you tried 'Mediaplayerclassic. It is an enhanced WMP and has untold codecs already installed.

Why couldn't you download the codec pack from Micro$$oft?

Sorry if I'm going over old ground, but I'm a bit confused.

Is the video playing okay now or not?

I've tried it on mine and it works with Internet Explorer, FireFox and Opera.

Do you have any other browsers?

 

Now i can actully open WMP OFFLINE fine. Before I couldnt!

I would think system restore would fix this but it doesnt even open up. It will load but not open. I even enabled it and everything. It still dont work, not even in safe mode.

 

See if any of THIS helps.


In FireFox, in the address bar, type in about: plugins then enter. (No space between : and plugins)

It should list WMP as enabled.

Did you go through and check everything in that link I posted?

 

in the picture it said if all the following say yes then everything is installed correctly. Everything shown was marked yes.

btw I turned off my firewall and disabled the anti virus, still no luck.
