major spyware infection

    A friend of mine has a computer that seems to have several major spyware infections, including midaddle and the about:blank hijack.

    I have followed the basic spyware removal thread as much as I physically can; however, I cannot conect to such locations as windows update.

    Assitance is appreciated.

    Can you get to safe mode with networking and run Windows Update from there?

    Gah. It seems he wants to live with it for now. If/when the sentiment changes, I'll try that.
