I am having several problems that started about 3 weeks ago. Running XP service pack 3. First couldn't connect to the internet even though the connection was good. Called provider and went through all of their trouble shooting steps to no avail. Did a system restore and it started working again but still would go down. Was using AVG Free and thought that maybe I had gotten attacked be something very nasty so I bought AVG 8.5 int sec and installed it. AVG will not update saying that the server is forbidden. Have gone round and round with AVG and everything the tell me or send me has to connect with their servers which are forbidden.

Tried to check firewall for an exemption on AVG and found out that there is a firewall from trend micro int sec 15 that is a left over from a previous software. Searched my PC to find out where this is at so I could disable it and it can't be found anywhere. Windows firewall has AVG as allowed.

Tried to go into the internet options in the control panel and the icon is there but when clicked it does nothing.

Then IE7 crashed with a vengence. I uninstalled it and installed IE8. It worked for a day then crashed hard.

I don't know if any of theses are related but I really need help.

    Thanks

Can you ping the AVG site?

Some of the symptoms are classic virus symptoms, especially where it blocking access to AVG site. (Don't panic. That's the worst thing you can do.)

According to what you're telling us there still are some remnants left of Trendmicro Int. Sec. Here's a link to address in how to remove those remnants. http://esupport.trendmicro.com/Page...sions-of-Trend-Micro-products-in-my-comp.aspx Don't forget to reboot after using that tool.

Do take into account that the above may not be the only issue that's affecting your machine. If the above doesn't resolve your problem, then it could be malware? In order to rule that out, please follow the instructions of this link: http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=35407 Hope this helps.

Tried the Trend Micro link you posted and keep getting an error message saying that the server was reset while negotiating the connection. Tried their site directly and got same thing so I emailed them and hopefully they will email me the download.

Will try the malware link tomorrow.

Thanks for the help to both of you

OK. AVG 8.5 int sec was causing some of my problems so I uninstalled it and was able to download the Trend Micro uninstall toolkit which worked beautifully. started on the malware removal instructions in the link that Oma posted and will continue on it tonight. Will post back with results.
