I think this should be kinda of a concern a little.

At the bottom of the main page http://www.majorgeeks.com/ i keep getting a Black bar across the page with a green tab asking to accept cookies why is is this happening.

I hear that there is kind of a new law EU that some sites need this but it's kind of annoying seeing it every time i go to the main page.To search for programs.

    What?! o_O
If they don't sell beer, I'm not going.

Seriously, more websites are using the cookie bar due to legislation.
If you don't keep the cookies for that website, it'll keep popping up with every visit.

Haven't seen the cookie bar here yet but I guess we will get it sometime.......... just checked the Australian internet calendar and it is still only up to July 2014 here LOL

I don't mind cookies for sites I trust like here at MGs it is handy to open the site being already logged in and with the site set to my preferences but for all the sites I don't want any cookies left.......... I surf incognito

Not got this yet myself, could be as I have admin access it does not show but does not when I do not sign in, yes EU law wants a disclaimer on every website, yeeh EU! Cookies are safe from majorgeeks if you allow them if asked.

I haven't gotten it either, but yes, many sites are doing this now.

I get it every time I just go to the 'home' page. And every time I logout from the forums it appears across the top saying - if you continue you agree to.... This is on 8.1 with IE.

Possible that you may get this cookie message if you use a cleaner app like CCleaner as this will reset any settings and site cookie OK's?

I haven't use CCleaner this month yet. Cache goes back to 7-3-2016. Seems to stay around the same size - maybe because I go to the same sites mostly except for an oddly different new story here and there. 250meg 6000 files in 8 folders and holding steady. However I don't sign in to most places - no google news sign-in, no cnn sign-in ect. And where I do sign in I don't check 'leave me signed in'. I get the banner from quite a few places. Always just thought it was because of the new 'legislation'.

Also if you do use CCleaner you can always set it to keep the cookies from Major Geeks or sites you use often.

Very likely as I get this cookie banner on many new sites I read, EU law forced this on all sites in the failed union.

I usually just ignore it instead of even acknowledging it any more. Unless it's in the way of content. Same as right now I still have the " Speed up browsing by disabling add-ons". I got tired of telling it 'don't disable' and mostly ignore it too.

So i am not the only one here that is seeing it.

Imandy Mann seems to see the same thing i am.

I even have a tone of ad blockers and it still seems to popup at random times.

I mean we all ready know by now that every web site uses cookies.95%of them are no big deal. You can clean them out with ccleaner and SUPERAntiSpyware .

I just realised you're getting the cookie bar on the main site which shouldn't happen.
Neither Internet Explorer nor Mozilla Firefox shows anything.

Nothing we can do about it. Very stupid people, some call them politicians, can't even use a good email password but want to dictate how YOU should be protected. So, they implement crap like this that does nothing, helps no one and secures no one but hey, they did something.

Typical knee jerk reaction from the high posts for current events. 40 years ago, I was part of a team that "told 'em so" What's so go good about the old days?

Just putting it out there to make sure others know about it.

And like i said it's not just this site other sites are doing this as well.

Just figure i get the word out about it is all.

I was just figuring that the popup could be stopped on your end Major Attitude since you are part co owner.

I new right from the start that all sites use cookies now ah days.It was just the random pop up that was my concern.

No. Since it is the law, Google has conformed to this law and anyone who uses any of their products such as AdSense or DoubleClick are required to put a notice up. Here is Google's FAQ page: https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/6245892?hl=en

If you want to read about the actual law, it is here: http://ec.europa.eu/ipg/basics/legal/cookies/index_en.htm#section_2

Btw, if anyone uses Adblock Plus, there is a filter you can try for the cookie bar: http://prebake.eu/

(Disclaimer: no idea how effective it is)

Thanks I use all the Adblock plus and Popup Controller for random tab pop ups.

If you install the filter, give us a review.

Most other blockers should be able to use the same list, raw text data is here, the link can usually be added manually to the blocker/HostsMan, etc.

(Disclaimer: haven't seen an EU cookie popup/down/bar for a very long time) :)

Exactly. The funny thing about the EU cookie bar (which is the stupidest thing in the history of the internet) is you need to set a cookie t0 remember the choice. If you choose to accept and then clean your cookies, it will keep asking. If you dont accepct - it will keep asking. If you have any sort of cookie blocker --- it will keep asking.

I am sooo happy I don't live in the EU. ;)

Neither will we in the UK soon.... but will likely keep this cookie change as would cost SMEs too much to change websites.

LOL - We actually considered blocking the whole EU when they passed that law as a protest, but then we realized you were there.. ;) BTW folks, as an aside, it is not possible to use a forum without accepting cookies. Also, it ridiculous to think that a site portal have cookie control and the law doesn;t really expect that. It is only meant to give EU users a warm fuzzy feeling that they are in control of something. For example, if you allow cookies on MajorGeeks and pull a google ad, it goes through a DoubleClick ad manager - that in turn can serve ads off of countless networks, (most times) none of which as for permission because by accepting a cookie in one place you imply that you accept all cookies on that service. The only way to really handle that sort of thing is from a browser / computer level - not a site level. With a site level cookie bar you are simply constantly reminded on how stupid and ill-informed politicians are.

I also think it was a way Jim for the Eurocrats in Brussels to waste EU money with debates and booze filled jollies that really doesn't offer much.

oh and thanks for not banning the whole of the EU.

Sadly out of date site as the UK did debate this but EU law http://ec.europa.eu/ipg/basics/legal/cookies/index_en.htm trumped us as usual https://ico.org.uk/for-organisations/guide-to-pecr/cookies-and-similar-technologies/

Dont think the UK coming out of the EU will repeal this and UK sites will still display this message, although wouldnt you want this as intrusive for 2seconds as it is, I know its really not needed but it was created to pander to the tinfoilgroup.
