This is just me kicking ideas around. Do you think a Ventrillo server would be a good idea or to much of a pain.

I can't make a decision on that mainly because I have no idea what it is, thought I would chime in anyway, being it looked lonely :wave

Its a great program gamers use to talk with each other while gaming alot of clans use that.

I dont' think MG would benefit from that.. Heck, wouldn't that weed out the ones on dial-up connectons? Besides, what purpose would it serve? :confused

Okay, NOW we know what it is! Thanks for the explainations;) Granted, it would be a novel idea, but I think I'll stick to the old fashioned way.....keyboard!;)

Back when I played an old game.. People always said they needed to add this kind of server to bring more people.. I found out it was to talk with other non english people on those games... But maybe I am wrong here. rolleyes

no, and the reason why is exactly the same reason the chat room was closed down. Controlling the behavior of certain people on it would be next to impossible and it does not fulfill any of MG's goals.

I voted no, for these reasons.

Its just like the idea for a MG IRC room. Its great on paper, but when it comes to real world use its more trouble then its worth. Its just to hard to mod 24/7. Perhaps we can organize a temporary vent server. Like once a month or so, for only a few hours as a special event of sorts?

Edit: For those who don't know what ventrillo is, think chat room, but with voice instead of text.

OK, I already voted, and posted, but after what I had seen tonight in the lounge, that was moved to the HOT BUTTON TOPICS, I don't see any way to moderate a Ventrillo server.. I don't think it will ever fly, when you have people posting arguments faster than you can moderate them.. No way to moderate that fast.....

Then, there is the spam.. Oh, cannot forget the spam..

IF it does come to pass, I do hope we get the option to opt out.. I don't really want to mess with that, or have to defend myself in one... JMO.;)

I would be strongly against this for the reasons Wraith and Mimsy posted, if you wish to chat then Live Messenger is good or do a vent server with your own group name and not in the name of MGs.

Plus to post my first thought is it would just not be right for MG because tech support would move that that area just like it did with the shout box and its against the ethos of what a forum is.

JMHO and personal one and not one of the owners, they can chime in themselves.

It would require far too much moderating work and I don't reckon it would be used as much to justify the costs.

If people want to chat properly then use Skype, or Live Messenger as Halo suggested.

I have a friend that just passed away, but he was using vintrillo and it was a 24/7/365 type of moderation that he did. Much more than I want to do. This is why I wanted an alternative. But how does anyone incorporate yahoo into a web page so that several members can chat with each other? Oh and fyi, vintrillo is very costly over the long haul and yahoo isn't. But could anyone reply and tell me where to go to find out how to incorporate yahoo into a web page ? Thank you!

    Hi

Do start a thread in the programming form on your tech question on yahoo embedding.

    Cheers.
