it's just a simple url redirection.

you type the url in .. it stores the url as a record.. when you type
2url.org?id=blah
then it queries the database for the url where the record =blah and then redirects you to that page.

It's not a very intensive task to do.. doubt it costs much money.

 

The bandwidth is probably very small, for all we know they may be logging what gets redicreted to and selling it, but I wouldn't know.

 

They're certainly not planting a cookie.

Mebbe the guy's running it on an old server in a basement somewhere with a simple cable ISP account he shares with his other machine.
