I have a Sony CD-RW external drive, and then I have a crappy internal drive that likes to hang windows for 10 seconds each time the drive is closed. So basically, I want to stop using the internal drive for good, and always use the cd-rw.

How can I make the external drive (which uses USB) the master cd drive?

some PC specs (no complaining >_>)

I don't believe that you can make a USB device a master drive, at least on the system that you have. Master and slave relationships are set up on the IDE channels. I could and may be wrong in this, and I'm sure that if I am, someone will jump in with the appropiate response and fix. :)
