Make FireFox faster --- Tweak Hard!!!

first, get this extension: http://cdn.mozdev.org/chromedit/
after downloading the extension, restart Firefox, Click Tools, and Edit User Profiles.
under user.js, copy and paste this into the open area:

I can't figure out what to do with that site/extension. The Faq's don't say much about how to use/and or install it.

Hey when i go to close out of firefox i get a message telling me that the download will be cancled. It was download and installed. I got a message saying that i had to restart firefox inorder to take effect....i did so cancled the download and when i go to tools there is no "edit user profiles"

Tweakage!

 

im having the same problem. i did notice it said that it didn't work with firefox 0.9. I have firefox 9.2; will it work with mine or is that count as 0.9.

 

i use 0.9.1 and it works fine. not sure why it won't work with what you have. go to Tools, Extensions and make sure it is in the list.

 

this is what i got so far, it says that once i restart firefox it will uninstall it but i havent chosen to uninstall it and when i do restart firefox it doesn't uninstall it. is there something wrong with my version or something?

 

do this instead:

1. Type "about:config" in the adress field.
2. Set the value of network.pipelining to "true".
3. Set the value of network.pipelining.maxrequests to "250".
4. Set the value of network.oxy.pipelining to "true"
5. Set the value of nglayout.initialpaint.delay to "0"

i don't have #5 on my list, but you may.

 

i looked and i dont have any of those

 

My firefox is 0.8

I tired what you said Acejones, and i did see a little difference in the speed. Not that much. I took a screen shot to be sure i got everything.

When I downloaded Firefox before I had to restore computer, there was an ext. that brought my IE bookmarks right to Firefox.
I think I have an updated version now. It seems different. Is there a way to still do this?

when you download and run any version of firefox it automatically imports your IE bookmarks.

 

It didnt do that for me. I had to export them then import them to firefox.

thats weird cuse it has done it for me ever since the first time i downloaded firefox.

 

I had to go to file.....import, then had option of importing from IE

Hmm... this tweak actually makes a substancial ammount of difference! forums pages go WHOOSH.

damn i want to tweak it, is anyone else having problems installing the extension in 0.92?

 

My IE favorites were imported fine, but my girlfriend has a separate account (local/admin) and when I try to import her favorites from the Docs/setting folder the favorites file will not open to import. Do I need to export it first? This is with Win2k.

 

go to Bookmarks, and then click on Manage book marks. Then click on File and import... then look for the bookmarks and it should import them.

 

easier:

Click File --> Import

 

yeah but he said that didn't work and he was trying to import his gf's bookmarks or something.

i redownloaded and it still isnt' showing up! dang it. in the extension window it keep saying that its going to uninstall it next time i restart firefox but that doesn't happen. and it doesn't show up as a menu in tools. this really stinks. im using firefox 0.9.2

 

Just do it with about:config and be done with it.

Or manually make the changes.

I registered just to say THANK YOU!!!. Firefox noticeably faster.

Since I'm here, I noticed that on this session all the post are reading backwards??? This (my) message will be shown at the top of page 1. The first message, by Robster12, is shown at the bottom of page 3. Did I hit some strange listing string button by mistake?

 

No thats just the default way the boards are shown. You can go into your settings to change it.

Thanks guys ...I just did it and i do notice a little bit more speed but do i need this part to make it work better-(5. Set the value of nglayout.initialpaint.delay to "0") or it wouldn't make much diffrence??


And if I do need that part how would i get it and install it.

I am wondering about that string too, as it isn't in 9.3. I know I could add it, but would it make a difference?

You should be able to just right click on the user.js or the prefs.js and edit it.

 

I typed in and went to "" about:config" " but i didn't see anything that looked like ""user.js or the prefs.js"" . Where and what are they??

And when you said ""edit it"" I guess you mean put it in... ok fine...How???
