Make IE, FF tab like Opera

Is it just me? I really like Opera but there are some things that work only with IE or FF. But Opera's tab system has it all over the other two--unless it's just that I don't know how to set IE or FF. When I have a website open in Opera and I go to a different website either by right-clicking a link or entering its web address, that site opens and its tab shows up while the original site's tab remains visible to the left of the new site's tab. I can have a string of many tabs showing after a while. In both IE and FF, the new site's tab shows up and the previous site's tab disappears. Only one tab ever is showing. I know about middle-clicking--if I can just remember to do it--but what about my laptop with no mouse? Can I make FF and IE work like Opera? Thanks.

Maybe I didn't make it clear. Your No. 1 is satisfied. Let's say I'm in FF on my home page. On the Bookmarks Toolbar, I right-click the Major Geeks link. My home page tab disappears as the MajorGeeks page opens and I am left with just one tab showing. If I right-click and use "open in a new tab," the same thing happens.

Thank you for all your interest and help. Your No. 2 (2. Even without that, if you right click a link on an existing web page if you choose 'open in a new tab' it will do exactly that leaving the originating tab in place.) does work for me. Maybe I'm being picky, but that does require two keystrokes, while the way Opera works for me, it just takes one keystroke to do the same thing. The fixit site you directed me to looks a bit complicated for my level of expertise. I may just have to decide if the advantages of FF outweigh those of Opera. Thanks again!

Well, you have convinced me to try the diagnostic tool. Logic tells me that "tabbed browsing" means more than one tab is open at a time, so there must be something I can do to get that in FF. I also like your suggestion on seeking help in the diagnostics tool forum. It will probably take some time for me to get through all of this.

My FF has always worked this way. I hold down the ctrl key, keep clicking links and I get new tabs to the right of my current active tab without losing focus. I think you just need to tweak some settings.
Under Tools/Options/Tabs in addition to the settings MarkTrent mentioned, I also have Always show the tab bar checked/ticked.

Yep, I can do the same thing. But, once again, that's two keystrokes instead of the one I can use in Opera. Also, I do have the Always show the tab bar checked.
