    Heya,

Quick couple questions for you hardware people out there~

First off, I'll start with saying that I'm going to be buying a new computer soon. I am going to be buying 6 new peices to create a much better machine than I have now, but am worried about making sure its all compatible. Here are the new parts I'm buying.

    18" (101UL) Black Case w/300 watt P4 power supply (four 5.25" bays & 2 USB)
    Maxtor 80GB HD 7200rpm 8MB (Ultra ATA-133)
    AMD® Athlon™XP Barton 2500+(1.83GHz) w/333Mhz FSB 512K Box
    Asus A7V600-X KT600 Chipset 1AGP8x/5PCI/3xDDR400 w/Sound SATA Raid USB 2.0 Lan ATA-133
    512MB PC3200 400Mhz 184pin DDR
    ATI Radeon 9600SE 128MB DDR AGP8X OEM

All this will cost me just over $615 canadian.

The motherboard has onboard sound and LAN cards, and I have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and soundsystem already. I'm just wondering if anyone can spot any obvious errors with compatibility out of those peices?

2 more things =P My dad has offered me a 80GB 2mb buffer 7200rpm HD in exchange for work around the house. What is the difference between a 2mb and 8mb buffer? Is the difference major? I figure if I can cut $125 out of that computer price by not having to buy a HD, i'll get the computer much faster =)

And about my graphics card. I will be using this computer for Maya5 and gaming. Anyone have opinions on how well this card will do? (It costs 99 bucks canadian at the hardware shop I buy from, excellent bang for the buck)

One more thing about the gfx board... it comes as OEM, meaning I'll be out a fan for the card (I think). Should I invest in cooling for my system?

Thanks for the help you guys, sorry it was so long =P

Thanks Robo =) I'll look into more cases, I figured 300 might be a little low for a PSU.

I think I'm going to go with my dads free HD for now and do like ya said, invest in a better card.

But out of curiousity, how much better/fast is the 8mb than the 2mb? If you can even gauge something like that... 2x faster? 3x faster? Sorry if it seems obvious, i'm a n00b

I am with robo on the vid card, but I would get (and I have) a 9600XT over the the Pro card. Also get Built by ATI card. They have a rock solid warranty and no muss no fuss replacement policy.
