making games?

I've always been interested in making my own game, wether 2d, 3d or w/e just a game. I have no idea where to start, what programs to get, what tutorials to read? Does anybody here make games... if so could you point me towards a good tutorial or the best program to start with?

 

Don't know where you would go, but for now I would recommend finding a game you like and see if it allows you to edit stuff and then go from there. Try to create new campaigns and stuff like that.

Photoshop, I hear, is a must for creating new life whether people or terrain.

depends on what type of games you want to do and what type of work you want to do in those games.

I'm an indie game developer and starting from scratch knowing scratch is about the worst thing you can do....believe me . You'll have to learn any of the major skills needed to making a game. 2D games are usually easier to make. But I'd suggest you'd join an existing team after teaching yourself things rather then start up your own project too early.

These Major skills are Programming, Modelling, Skinning, Animation & Level Design. So see which you'd prefer going after and start reading up on it, there are countless tutorials available on each subject online, google should help you find many .

The most likely avenue to get your feet wet would be modding games, skinning and modelling are usually highly required for these mods, unless you pick up programming/scripting which is also useful for mods.

There are tons of mod and game teams out there that could probably use someone motivated and with skills.
