    Hi

I have paid for a download of vuze 4.3.0.6 I figured it might be safer to pay for it :-D I also have Mcafee anti virus, security centre and firewall running. I understand that it is the torrents I download rather than the torrent provider that can be the problem. Is there anything else that I can do to protect me from malicious torrents?

    Many thanks for any advice

depending on where you search for torrents, read the user comments and just make sure you scan each download. Isn't vuze free? and if you did pay for it, who did you pay?
the most common problem with malware from torrents, is downloading questionable items, like crackz/serialz, and porn. also by not knowing where to find the bit torrent software, and just searching for it, and going to the first site on the list without being entirely sure if it's the correct one.

yeah you're right, I should have downloaded from major geeks - I ended up paying $30 to get it from this site which provides support etc http://membersareamus.com/2/index.htm
I can see where the user comments are but how would I scan the torrent before downloading?

    Many thanks again

support for what? if that's the case, don't they have support for this kind of problem?

I'm not trying to be rude, but I think that site is a scam, and I would uninstall anything you downloaded from them.

They offer similar things for limewire and others.
Vuze is free. their support page is here, for free. http://faq.vuze.com/

you're right. I have been conned :-o and have asked for a refund (they offer a "7 day guarantee" minus admin costs). Have also contacted my bank.
I will uninstall vuze downloaded from them and assume a Mcaffee scan will pick up anything lurking or would you advise a specific malware removal tool?
Lastly i did check vuze faq but couldn't find a reference to scanning torrents so it would be great if you could point me in the direction of learning how to do this....

    Thanks again

when you go to your download folder, you can right click the file, and choose scan for threats (i think thats what it is for mcafee)

after looking more at your link. they do provide the proper link for the software (sourceforge) . but i'm more concerned with the other "free" and "bonus" things.
