    Hello TeckSperts,

In July, I reformatted the harddrive and reloaded everything. It is an older machine with a Pentium 3.oGb intel chip running XP SP3. I run CCleaner and System Mechanic to try to keep up with maintenance and I am running Vipre premium.

Recently, my system seems to just slow down rebooting seems to solve it for a while. I have run Hijack this only to find there are a number of entries I dont recognize and others I am not sure I need.

Is there a an XP-ert that can help me with this diagnosis.

    Thanks in advance.

    Paul

    Hi

Do you get any signs of malware on your PC other than a slow boot? things like....

    • Is it popups? if so do they have a name.
    • Is your browser being re-directed to a less welcome site?
    • Does your Anti-Virus software alert you to a Virus/Trojan? if so whats its name.

If you suspect malware then please follow the below

Please read and follow the following READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide and once finished please start a new thread in the Malware Forum plus a guide on how to attach the logs HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post

When you first noticed the slowness in yoru PC had you installed or updated any application? if so what?

Hijackthis is not a great tool for working out a slow PC, but what you can try is boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and is your PC slower still? if not then you may have too many startups running on your PC so please attach a list of these by running the below

Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, Paul...

First thing I'd suggest is to run through the Read and Run Me First procedures in the Malware Forum - those steps will ensure that you don't have some nasties that are causing your problems...

Once you're 100% certain that the machine is clean, and if the symptoms persist, then we'll tackle your other software...

    EDIT: Sorry, Halo!

    1. Caliban - will read the suggested materials now and get back to you (fyi I have the malwarebites program already)
    2. Halo - there are no signs outward signs of malware at all (viper and Malwarebites come up with nothing)

There could be some issues with programs like Magic Jack, Skype, Itunes ... these are the reasons I checked Hijack This.

thank you both, I will get back.
