    Dear MajorGeeks Support Forums,

    Malware- NTRL Sri Lanka 2009.09.14

    Startup items

I wish to know which of the following items are not essential to be running and hence can be disable/remove by using StartupCPL.

    • Quick Time Task

    Sudden Turning off the Computer
After a Hardware repair (I think as all software are intact) of the computer, when running the READ & RUN ME FIRST. Malware Removal Guide (as advised by your software forum), the following problems were encountered.

The Computer suddenly turns off (Both in Normal and Safe Modes),
    • On Launching SUPERAntiSpyware,
    • Launching Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
    • On Launching ComboFix
    • On running Spybot S&D
    • Immunizing by using Spybot S&D
    • Checking for problems by using Spybot S&D

The computer restarts or turns off (Both in Normal and Safe Modes)
    • Running RootRepeal

TDSSserv Non-Plug & Play Driver Disable
TDSSserv.sys was not found in Non-plug and Play Drivers

The computer turns off in Normal Mode and a message appears in Safe Mode saying that the installation of programme dotnetfx.exe failed installing the .NET Framework software from Microsoft.

Cannot install the following Windows updates:
    IE8-WindowsXP-x86-ENU
    IE8-WindowsXP-KB972260-x86-ENU (Version mismatch)
WindowsXP-KB956744-x86-ENU (See generated log attached “KB956744.txt”

Cannot run the following Windows updates (The Computer suddenly turns off):
    Windows-kb890830-v2.12
    Windows-kb890830-v2.13

However, MGTools was executable and the generated log is attached.

    Thanking you.

    All the best,
    Manilka

Please post all non-malware problems and questions in the Software Forum or another forum if not software related.

This PC cannot properly run Windows XP. It does not have enough memory. Your logs show the below:
You need 8 times this amount of memory.

This thread is being moved to the Software Forum because you are not having malware problems.

Hey Doc, What happened to the stick of ram you had added? IIRC you had got an additional 1GB and it sorted out your boot speed issues. You need this back ASAP.
This could be due to overheating as well.
What hardware repairs were carried out?
    Cheers..

    Dear chaslang
    MajorGeeks Admin - Malware Expert,

    Malware- NTRL Sri Lanka 2009.09.14

Thank you for your reply. Actually I initially contacted your software forum (Software- NTRL Sri Lanka 2009.08.03) and iwunderdownunder Sergeant, thought that it was due to a malware related problem, being all the software I had listed were all related to antivirus and malware protection. He suggested that I should follow the steps in the malware removal guide. Therefore I followed them and sent whatever information available.

Sikvik First Sergeant has also sent me a reply indicating that it is a lack of RAM. I will request our Administrative section to purchase us a 1 GB RAM.

I will follow this up in the Software forum.

    Thanking you.

    Yours Sincerely,
    Manilka

    Dear sikvik,
    First Sergeant,

    Malware- NTRL Sri Lanka 2009.09.14

    Thank you for your reply.

The 1GB RAM was added to my home computer “User jaye” and it is working like a song. This “NTRL Sri Lanka” computer was repaired after the Hard Disk failed. An assembled computer has returned for the old one and it worked for sometime without any problems but again on one of many bad days for our laboratory’s computers, this did not simply turn on and it was handed over for repairs again.

After the second repair, all these problems propped up. The computer repairers may have tampered with the RAM I believe.

All in all, I will request our Administrative section to purchase us a 1 GB RAM for this purpose.

I will contact you again on this thread when we get it (even if it takes my lifetime. Our Administration section is such.).

    Thanking you.

    Yours Sincerely,
    Manilka
