Caliban I don't need no steenkin' title!

    Greetings, nec209.

For what it's worth, the symptoms displayed by the original poster in this thread are not malware-related - this is clearly a browser crash problem, nothing more.

I agree with Caliban and the thead you link too on Google Images is not likely a malware security issue but a browser and likely 3rd party addon problem, it could also be network related but without more info I wouldnt know yet which way to go. Very out-lying issue could be malware but as the report is only Google Images its unlikely and more likely addon based.

Google Images are not listed as non safe surfing or if it was then Google as a whole and all its online applications would be deemed as such. NO ONE of the Malware Team or Advanced users will have posted to that member in that thread on Google Images crashing that 7 rule thingy you have mentioned as the issue as they did not state they where downloading warez, porn or randomly clicking or opening attachements in email!!?

I think you wish to carry on your weird threads on malware protection in which you need to look at what you are doing to attract malware and enough advice was given in the two threads you started reciently.

I have not seen your thread that was in your quote above or cannot find it, I didnt remove it as I have been offline for 24-48hrs.

But I do know that you need to read more about topics you dont know as well as you think, so post less and read more as a friendly tip as I do not wish to see multiple report a posts on your random issue with malware and you getting infection hits.

There is no controversy at all, its just you are not listening to the advice already given.

I removed your thread as it is just a rehash of your previous two threads. We have given you ample information on how to protect yourself. Yet you seem to not want to follow any of that advice and prefer to keep talking about "borderline" safe surfing. We can't sit next to you and watch each place you go to and advise you as to whether or not it is safe. Install WOT or Site Advisor.

    Hello, nec209.

The only thing I see in common with the the two threads you reference is, they are both computer related. Beyond that, there is no connection or similarity between the two. I'm afraid I don't see any evidence of a debate between the Malware Fighters and the "advanced computer users".

I think you'll find that all of the Malware Fighters, Administrators and Moderators at MajorGeeks have earned the admiration and respect of the "advanced computer users" of these forums. When any one of them can post in a thread it is greatly appreciated. Any advice or suggestion they offer is highly regarded because it has proven time and again to either, be, or lead to the solution of what ever technical problem is at hand.

The same can be said of the "advanced computer users" here. They are indeed advanced and draw from a vast wealth of knowledge and experience.

I've learned much from MajorGeeks, but not even a thimble full, compared to what is available here. Oh, and I haven't had one malware infection since I started learning from MajorGeeks almost five years ago. But, using the advice found here I've managed to clean up or "fix" several friends' and relatives' computers and keep them that way.

All that is necessary is to read, heed and maybe a question or two now and then.

My appologies if this was inappropriate.

Why appologise for speaking the truth. I too have also gained a wealth of information and learning from reading and helping out in posts,I am in a similiar position as you in having to repair friends/families machines after infection..(like many others here).. and still ask the EXPERTS in the malware section for assistance in checking logs to make sure infection has gone.My machine has only suffered one infection from a dvd download (p2p) never have used that site again, never had another infection, lesson learnt ;).And in my opinion those that keep getting themselves infected by disregarding the advice given to them on how to remain infection free, should only be allowed limited use of the FREE ADVICE AND SERVICE that is readily available on this forum, I may be out of order saying that, seems that I am pretty much still a "newby", but I am entitled to an opinion.
I would like to say THANKS to everyone who have assisted me, and to ALL of MG's for the wealth of information and assistance that you make readily available :highfive

Tim, you and your Fellow Malware Guru's must get fed up having to deal with the same "people and issues" time and time again, if they are not willing to heed the warnings then "why should it be" that they can consume the time and assistance from You. I have told Freinds that if they continue to visit the sites and use the programs that infect them that I will not help them and will have to put their machines into a repair shop that will £££££'s to get fixed.

Which is the reason the OP's two other threads on the same issue were finally closed. :major

I just checked the 3 threads and only one thread comes any where close to reply of borderline safe surfing.

You both seem to be up tight over advice on how to secure the computer and what programs you need that all nice but no one is really replying to my post on borderline safe surfing.

What I'm saying is I could do all the adive given here but if I do borderline safe surfing I'm still going get malware pop ups IF OTHER yes OTHER malware teem guys and advance computer users here do not do borderline safe surfing .

So my question is do the malware staff or advance computer users click on links or look it up if it safe before they click? Or is it just 10+ years of computer experience they know what is safe or not URL's.

One thread was on why I'm getting malware or malware is so high , the other Kaspersky why it blocks it some time and not other times but than the thread turn into other thread and got closed do to cros posting. Also I was in debate with member and I think that is why the other thread got closed too.

Google Images are not listed as non safe surfing or if it was
Would this be what you are searching for and filter use? Do not type wallpaper ,theme or bachground ?

Yes but you still get malware if you use Google Images to search for Popstars , American idols, celebrities ,fashion, people or blogs. Do to most people going click on the picture to make it bigger.

Well, if I click on a link that's known to have a bad history, I just get a browser error message.

It's one little part of having layered protection.

It's what WOT and McAfee Site Advisor is all about. There is malware out there, but it is up to you to do what is necessary to protect yourself from it. Isn't that clear to you?

sorry for delay in reply but I have been very busy the past 2 days.

I know Pop-ups and ads can be easily blocked with firefox adblockplus. The Adblock Plus for firfox will block most Pop-ups and ads .

sorry but I was using yahoo toolbar the pop up blocker that comes with yahoo toolbare and problem is does not work all the time.

the people who write these, are now trying to use legitimate advertising companies to advertise their websites or in the case of the london stock exchange, they created a fake advertising company to look like a legit one.

most of these now come from the adverts on the page and not the page itself. As more websites are trying to make more money they are using these adverts as a source of income and as such make it easier for them to infect peoples computers .

so not so much site may have malware but you get malware through ads or pop up .

I also think SpywareBlaster may also be good at blocking annoying or malicious ads.

The problem is just about any message board on the internet ,blog ,news site has ads and some pop ups.

trojan, spyware, adware are becoming a big problem and coming through ads,pop ups and pictures

This was not the case before!! What is going on now is that trojan, spyware, adware are smart and can come in by ads ,pop ups or pictures.Like one use google image search and click on a picture to view it and get the trojan, spyware, adware or go to a web site or blog and there is ads or pop ups at the web site and get the trojan, spyware, adware .

    Rambings about malware

Yes, we all know the internet can be a scary place these days. Just look at the malware forum. No one is debating that. Again, the only question is what are you going to do to protect yourself? It's why Chaslang created the How to Protect yourself from malware! guidelines.

The link tells you how to secure the computer and what programs you should have.

It does not say to much on safe surfing or some of the quetions I'm asking in the thread here.

    Re: Rambings about malware

It has been stated over and over to you ad naseum: 'Safe surfing' means protecting yourself! Yes!...you can get infected by clicking on photos online. Yes!...you can get infected by clicking on ad banners. Etc! The ONLY thing you can do is protect yourself with something other than one layer of security. It's that simple.

I'm not sure how it needs to be reworded so that you understand you will not get a different answer here. As TimW said...NO ONE is arguing with you that the internet is not a safe place for your computer. YES!...you Will get infected if you do not use protection. If you are going out on to the internet...do not do it without the protection mentioned in that thread TimW linked you to. If you want to just use Kaspersky, go right ahead. But please stop bringing this topic up if you don't want to follow the advice given to you over and over and over (and over and over) again. Frankly, this is getting tiring.

Protect yourself. Period. You will get no other input here at Major Geeks regarding this issue.

You can keep bringing this up as many times as you want and everyone here will give you the same answer.

Do not bring this up again, please.
