Malwarebytes And Pup's

I have used Malwarebytes FREE for many years as a casual on-demand manual scanner.
But it does find many Pup's elative to highly popular programs.

I have no interest in their false positive exercises, I make my own judgement based on program
confidence and experience and simply make any Pup's found that I am happy with - exceptions.

Auslogics are a favourite target for Malwarebytes. 11 Pup's have been found concerning this program on my PC.
This program is highly popular on a global scale ! I personally have used it for very many years, which is where Malwarebytes and I part company.

None of my other malware programs detect these Pup's.
Avast is my AV and I have the following programs as manual as-needed sweepers -
    Emsisoft Emergency Kit and SuperAntiSpyware.
Auslogics Pup's are not found by any of these security programs and all of them scan for Pup's.

I even have Malwarebytes own Adwcleaner, which only finds ONE Pup and NOT 11 for Auslogics !

    Any comments ?

Which Auslogics program are you using?

Many programs have history with MBAM and flag as PUP's, take iobit for instance MBAM flags over a 100 pup's and automatically quarantines them. you can only uncheck them and they will go to the exceptions list and will no longer flag up.

Malwarebytes is shooting itself in the foot by not fixing the false positives.
It's hellbent on targeting certain programs and certain publishers.

MalwareBytes will catch anything it feels is an unwanted Program, these in theory should be programs bundled with software like iOBit programs offered with their driver updater but often it is catching wanted software, in my case files included as part of a screensaver which are required for this to work.
I know they have ‘problems’ with iOBit software due to them allegedly stealing/using part of their software illegally so any false positives with iOBit programs will never be fixed imo.

Over the years because of Malwarebytes scooping up every Pup in existence regardless of whether they are necessary to a program or not, I have only used Malwarebytes occasionally out of curiosity.

Auslogics is often bundled with other Auslogics software and and I believe they bundle their software with other third party installers. That is why MWB lists it as a PUP.

Agreed. I'm not saying I always agree with Malwarebytes aggressive approach to PUPs just pointing out that Auslogics has not been totally innocent in their marketing and distribution methods. Malwarebytes themselves have become pretty aggressive in their marketing strategy. They still make a quality product for removing malware but other than that have become just like the rest. Over bloated software and their in-software marketing is nagware.

I have several lifetime licenses to Malwarebytes. I got really annoyed with it this weekend. I downloaded a free game to try. Every time I tried to install it, MBAM popped up and blocked it. I removed it from quarantine and tried again, but the same thing kept happening.

    This is the site
    Code:
    https://www.myplaycity.com/
and I've tried programs from there in the past.
I finally ended up erasing the downloaded exe file.

I guess if I want to try it again, I'll have to kill MBAM before I start the install.

I don't know if it still is or not but the Myplaycity installer includes a browser hijacker.

Be careful if you do disable protection. It's a browser hijacker so not exactly the worst infection but they can be pretty stubborn to completely remove once they take over.

Edit. I don't trust that website at all. Tried to download/test a few installers and they either never downloaded or I was redirected to another website with a completely different game. I gave up, beware.

Thanks evilfantasy! I don't want a browser hijacker. (I do have an image I can restore which is quicker than trying to scrape unwanted sludge off the computer.)
That must be a new "feature" because that didn't happen in the past. I'll make a note to avoid that site completely.

I go to another site, thanks to Eldon, and have downloaded and played free games from there.
    Code:
    https://www.gametop.com/
The only thing they do when you quit a game is open your browser and send you to the home page. I simply close it. Since I have uBlockOrigin installed, most of the site doesn't load.

I buy games through BigFish but thought I'd save some money.
