The early versions of Malwarebytes Anti-Malware were all freeware. Yes, they were betas, then came the public betas, and then a final, but it was all free. Now I see on the MG front page (on Jan 20 or 21) that it's shareware at $24.95.... what gives?

MalwareBytes Anti-Malware (MBAM), was never freeware. Beta software is not commercial grade software. No one, and I mean no one in the industry charges for Beta software. It is not a retail release.

MBAM v1.00 is the retail release. If you were a registered Beta tester for MBAM then you should have received an email with a coupon for 50% off towards the purchase of the retail version of MBAM.

    Is there a trial period?
I ask because CounterSpy has a 15 day trial and costs less at $19.95.
Disclaimer: I was a beta tester for CS and have it currently installed on two computers ( I received 1 year free as a beta tester and purchased a license for the other computer).
I'd like to compare this to what I'm currently running. I do have another computer to install it on.

You can download and install MBAM, unregistered versions are feature limited. As in: no resident real-time protection, and some settings are only available in the PRO (registered) version of MBAM.

Yeah, I was a beta tester, but I guess I thought it was going to remain freeware, or at least a fully functional trial version would be available.... oh well. I got the 50% off coupon, so that's cool. Thanks.

Thanks and I can understand why they do this.

Just thought I would chime in (being the developer and all rolleyes)

MBAM is a full scanner with all features unlocked forever. It is not crippled, everything works in it except the "Protection" tab. There is no trial currently, but we are working on one and will be released in a few versions from now.

If anybody has any questions, I will keep an eye out on this topic - or you can contact me via e-mail. I reply to all e-mails within 24 hours.

    Rubber,
A trial version is a very good idea.
SAS and A2 (your main competition) has trail periods, so you're at a disadvantage there.
And how about that x64 version? :-D
You dont have to answer that, I know I nag too much.
