I was just wondering with the new Malwarebytes v3 whether it is now a fully fledged antivirus program along with it's other features.

If so, is it on par with programs like Avira and Avast regarding detection rates and performance? I would consider changing my current Avira install to Malwarebytes Premium if it was.

If someone has links to a reputable comparision website to see how Malwarebytes stacks up against other AV programs would be a bonus.

    Cheers

No they are not the same notwithstanding the recent changes in MB version 3. Malwarebytes Premium version 3 is no different in this context to MB Premium version 2. You would be well-advised not to rely on MB premium alone.

The only thing that I love about Malwarebytes is the fact that it scans a device faster than majority of antivirus programs out there. But in terms of protecting a device, I'm not quite sure if it can stand alone.

Max quoted a blog from version 2.
Here is a post about version 3

Mind you, I would not rely on a single program for everything. I still have an av and MBAM v2 working.

I'm not planning to install v 3 until I get a comprehensive list of what av programs it will and won't work with. I will continue to use another vender's av program.

Yes I do know they say MB 3 is more or less equivalent to an AV but firstly I don't believe, that since all it is is MB real-time and added ransomware (free and better install and forget Ransomware products area available) some kind of anti-exploit already incorporated in freeware security, they are just trying to make money period.
Personally, I refuse on principle to 'pay' for security software as a private individual. If I ran a business, yes.
There is ZERO protection difference between freeware AV programs and the 'Premium' versions. It's ONLY about 'bells and whistles' and nothing else. If I was a dimwit and didn't want to have to think about things - and I had money to throw down the toilet - I might 'buy' software. But I am neither so I don't.
I found MB 3 horrible - slow and a GUI that made me want to scream. Not my cup of tea.

I have MB 3 and if you have the trail or paid version then if you look under the security and maintence in control panel you will see that under antivirus section Malwarebytes is turned on and more or likely it will say there is multiple antivirus programs installed and turned on it will make your system run slowly. if you have windows defender it will automatically turn off for Malwarebytes.

If MB Premium is just MB free but with real time protection, then it is no different to the earlier versions in Premium real time protection mode. Anyone with a system limited in CPU and Ram resources would be better off with a proper AV program, and MB as a default scanner.
