How do you determine what are the latest files placed on a drive? I don't download anything from the Internet, yet I have a 574Gb C drive that slowly fills up, about 5-10Gb of space per month. I run CCleaner, Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, SUPER AntiSpyware, TDSS Rootkit and AVAST Internet Security frequently, yet cannot find what is filling up my hard drive.

I have downloaded Rouge Killer and attached the report. Hopefully, that will help troubleshoot what the problem may be.

The RK log only shows a Canon Camera/Printer driver and JV16 Powertools reg cleaner as "suspicious" and it says the Hosts file is too big. What else are you running? Do you have System Restore active on anything but the System drive? The System Volume Information folder can become enormous.

I don't think I have anything else running.

How can I tell if the System Restore is active on anything else? The latest restore points are from those I created manually, about once or twice a week, and whenever Windows or another program creates it.

Also, how do I find information on the system volume information folder?

You might get some useful information from a program that breaks down and itemizes every byte on your computer. There are a bunch of these programs but I'm going to recommend TreeSize (Personal or Professional) because that's what I have the most experience with, and they are quite good to boot. Both versions are now shareware but both have 30 day trial periods... more than enough time to investigate and answer many of your questions. Here's the link to the download page on their website:

Download it, install it, and run it. It will show you exactly how much space is being taken up by every folder on your system, including the infernal System Volume Information folder. If you track it over a week or two, you should see how quickly it's filling up, and, if it's your culprit, take steps to stop the bloat. Like Mdonah said, this folder can become massive, something that you couldn't know if you have your system configured to hide this system folder.

Give it a shot and let us know what you find. Good luck.

Along with what rustysavage says, the attached screenshot can tell you how to disable that SVI folder on any but the System Drive. Rustysavage uses TreeSize but I use a freeware, standalone app called SpaceSniffer. It, too works quite well.

    Thanks, Rustysavage.

What I ended up doing was enabled the setting for me to see the hidden files and folders as well as the hidden protected operating system files. I then saw the system volume information folder to be over 272GB.

Since I already had a backup image of the drive, I removed all of the restore points and lowered the max usage setting to 40GB. I created a new restore point, which took up ~3GB. Needless to say, I then ran Defraggler on the disk.

    Thanks again for the help.

Another good freebie is WinDirStat. If you don't want the graphical displays - I don't - you can switch them off. I do like the way it presents the usage information though - enables you to pinpoint the space grabbers straight off.
