What's the best way to do this? I'm using StartupCPL with my XP, but it doesn't say that it supports even Vista.

I have not found anything built into 7 (other than msconfig) and have even looked on Microsoft.

    Thanks!

(this may be the first of many threads for me with this new laptop) :-D

I'll take a look, thefool. I'd prefer something built in just for that. I thought Vista supposedly had that. Did MS not do it for 7?

Vista has its own built in. That according to StartupCPL's author. http://www.mlin.net/StartupCPL.shtml

Perhaps you can see if Windows 7 has something similar to Vista?

If not, someone else will be able to help you?

Thanks oma. I saw your link for that in that other thread and checked it out. So far I haven't found anything built in. If Vista has one, I can't imagine that got rid of it for 7. :confused

Well, the registry editor is built in. ;)

    Use WinPatrol http://www.winpatrol.com/
free or you can pay and move up to plus edition.
It does work on Win 7 and does more than just managing startup items. I think you will be pleased with it.
(I'm a huge fan of Startup Cpl but I also run this).

Thanks all. I'll try the options out and see what works. :)

Does this app still bark whenever it detects anything odd?

    Hi Laura

Sadly Windows 7 Defender does not have the Startup Explorer to manage startups, dont use msconfig as it has its pitfalls but the standalone version of StartupCPL works ok and you could use AutoRuns from MSFT

Basically I delete using ccleaner any that I eem not needed as no need to disable if your not going to want them so why not just delete, caveat is if you update you need to delete them again but you would need to untick them an a startup manager app anyway.

Another option and a great one is Startup Delayer

I started using Spysweeper which I forgot had a Startup Shield that I used before I started using StartupCPL.

StartupCPL wouldn't install for me on here.

Scotty barks when something wants to run at startup so I then get to permit or deny.
