I am in desperate need of some mandrake help!!
One of my friends gave me an old Compaq Proliant 2500 (Dual pen. pros @200mhz) and 256 MB of ram. My problem is when i try to install mandrake (or even run a linux on cd distro...) the machine comes up very very slow and either tells me i dont have enough memory to install or it tells me i only have 13,588 mb (13mb). I have also tried passing optional tag thingies to the kernel (i.e. mem=256 and mem=exactmap..blah blah blah)
and none of this works at all. It says that initrd stuff then it goes
uncompressing linux.....ok, booting the kernel... then halts and doesnt respond. Also,if this helps any, the system has an EISA bus; some ppl have told me that linux doesnt really like to "shake hands" with this kind of hardware; but would this really have something to do with memory?! Any and All Help will be greatly appreciated!!
