Just acquired this, absolutely flawless install. It picked up all my hardware, and I was up and running, configured and surfing the net in 52 minutes. I like it

BTW, if anyone wants to pay postage I have a release of Mandrake 9.1 and Redhat 9.0 going spare.

    Hey g11gam3sh,
    I was just wondering...
Are you planning on joining in on the "Mandrake Club" or whatever they call it? Do you think that its worth the $60 for the updates and such? That is how it goes with Mandrake, huh?

Oh, and yes, the hardware detection on linux is something else, isn't it? No probs nowadays :) :) :)

I just ordered "Damn Small Linux" distro - (no joke - that's the name) tonight for my ThinkPad 385ED. Its 333MHz, 2GB,
I gotta get something lightweight for it...
    Hope it works.

    Congrats on the good install!

My biggest beef with Linux is how sometimes a newer version won't detect or have good drivers where a previous version would.

Too many times have I had a newer version not work with my sound card, or modem, or nic, and yet if I pop in an old version, it works like a charm.

And yes, I mean the same distro each time.

I have read about that happening. I don't know if one could work around that sort of thing or not.

I did have a SUsE live cd fail when it came to detecting my Epson Stylus C82 inkjet printer.
A site caught my eye tonight. A link from our "sister site" of sorts-- Linux Compatible-- had a "how to install Gentoo" tute on it. It looks interesting... like you compile the whole business from the "get-go". My interest is piqued.

How in the heck do you guys get these quote things to reference the user who originally made the statement? I can't seem to work it right for anything!
