I just installed Mandrake Linux onto my computer (NEVER used linux before and I wanted to start playin around with it) I partitioned off some of my hard drive for linux and when I boot to it it asks for a login name and password... however when I installed it I said "No Password" and only gave it my name when it asked. However when I try to either put in my name and no password.. says "invalid password" when I try no name and no pass it just brings up a new instance of the login name.. even if I were to try to type a password it wouldn't work because when I type when the password line is active the cursor never moves. Can anyone offer me any help? Should I reinstal linux or what? thanks everyone

    Hey, MBlock,
Before you reinstall, try this: at the login screen, type in the word:
    root
for the username, and leave the password field blank.
Try to log in like this.
(Mind you, if you get in, create a "normal" user account, so that you will not have to run your machine as root (superuser, "administrator)).

Running the machine as root for no good reason is a Bad Thing.

Ok thanks I am at work now but I'll try that tonight when I get home. Is there anything else that might work? If not it's all good I really don't mind having to reinstall it... but I'll make sure I try the root log in
