Hello, I'm having a very hard time getting used to Linux, I was raised on MS products, and have not had the best luck installing anything. I am trying to force myself to learn it so I've put it as a dual boot on my laptop, that went flawlessly, but I don't know how to install the W-lan project, I look for something called setup, install, anything executable but nothing. I know this is probably laughable to many of you linux users but with out internet my dual boot is useless, especially if I have to keep running back to windows to get answers.

Wlan setup on linux isn't as easy as it is on windows. This is mainly because of the hardware manufacturers only building windows drivers. There are two ways to install wlan hardware on a linux system. The preferred method is by using a native linux driver if available. The other one is to use ndiswrapper. Ndiswrapper will take the windows driver and make it work on your linux system.
Ndiswrapper has more chances of success, but as it uses windows drivers, functionality may be limited (depending on the card).

To find drivers for your card, we need to determine the chipset. If you already know, good, tell me :).
If not, let's find out. Open a console and switch to root by typing su and entering your root password when prompted.
If your card is USB, make sure it's plugged in and type lsusb. If it's integrated, type lspci.
In the output locate your card, and paste the line it's on here. (If you cannot locate the card, paste the complete output)
We can then look up vendor and model of the card and find drivers.

Note: you will never have a 'setup' under linux. Programs are installed by compiling them yourself or using binary packages like rpms (these can be compared to microsoft's .msi installer packages). Also, linux executables do not have an extension. So don't look for .exe files, as there won't be any.

I just heard about ndiswrapper this morning. I am installing a pcmcia cardbus wpc11. There aren't any native drivers(that I could find) all of the research I did kept sending me to the wlan project.
